Wonderful post!
I have often wondered what happened to "trying out" for sports teams? I still believe this is a great concept. It shows that every athlete must put forth an expected amount of effort.
Most parents do expect a bit too much in their first years of wrestling, but that is why there are novice venues available to newbies.
Those parents encouraging "ig" are those buying their wrestler a medal or trophy to avoid some tears after they went 0-2. My wrestler did not win a single match for his first two years, but now has quite the collection of medals and trophies.
Not only coaches, but parents need to evaluate their level of commitment to any sport, but especially wrestling, in order for an athlete to reach a competitive level.
On the other hand, it is great to see the dedication of some great coaches and enthusiasm of supportive parents in these last few weeks of the season.
