The kids already have a range to fall within. 40.1 to 43 = 43 lb weight class. 43.1 to 46 = 46 pound weight class. 46.1 to 49 = 49 pound weight class, etc. That is why they establish all the various weights. The kids are going to grow during the season. So if in November your child weighs 45 or 46 pounds - there is a very good possibility he or she may need to be in the 49 or 52 pound class by March. It is that simple - they will grow during the season.

We all live in fear of the scales this time of year. It's part of it. It's part of it until they graduate from high school.

I have to agree with the line in the sand. If we gave .2 or .4 then the kids that were over those allowences by .2 would have the same arguement as now. I say 52 is 52, not to be hard, but just to be fair. As far as the scale variances, all tourns we have been to have let kids try other scales if they weighed heavy on the first one. Sometimes the first scale was the lightest of all and it got worse as they moved from scale to scale. My son hangs in about .4 to 1.3 under his weight at weigh ins. Thurs night prac we step on the certified scale and then we know what we need to do the next 36 hrs. It's a method that works for us.

My son weighed in at an early tournament .8 ounces over, they let him in. I couldn't believe it! I bumped him up next tournament and haven't worried about his weight since. But all through that tourney I wondered how many kids they let through that were over.

I think for the most part tournements will let kids slide a little on non-qualifiers. If the kids is grossly over then maybe not. From what I have seen and done if you are .6-1lb you better go run, the kid comes back and is .3 over they let him go the 1lb kid comes in a .5 well you better run a little more so he does comes back at .2-.3 lets him go.

Nobody in open tourneys wants to not allow a kid to wrestle in the example above for twi reasons. 1) you are being consistent with the weight you are allowing 2)They both had to work to get down to the "allowable" level 3) if you are over farther the harder you have to work to make it. Making Mom sad seeing you run prompting Dad to bump you next week. 4) Both kids being out really screws your brackets up...lol

But everybody is right, this time of year there are no gimmies.

This subject was talked about this weekend. With trackwrestling now running what if we had a computer and a scale for every age. Then you would show up for the tournament pay the entry fee step on the scale and your name and exact weight would be entered in. The computer would place you in the correct weight class. Everyone wrestles and this takes care of scratches also. Again this was talked about this weekend any thoughts.

How would you seed such a tournament? Assuming we are still talking about subs.

Jess,

Windjammer you beat me to it. What about the seeding meeting? No seeding meeting and random draw?

i think that idea is a liitle much, that kinda takes away from the fun a little, whats next trackwrestling will have a replacement wrestler for you in case your sick, i think it would take away from all the hard work these young men do, witch is good for them. i think that might make alot of them lazy to let a machine decide where they wrestle. just my thoughts.

How does it take away from the fun? How would it make them lazy? The machine does not decide where they wrestle. They still make weight and are bracketed accordingly. Seeding could be difficult though.

For subs you have a friday night weight-in only. Then Sat. morning you have coaches show up at 6:00 am for seeding meeting. Dist II North was seeded in about an hour and half. Wrestling Starts at 9:00 am. The weight you enter at subs carries over for District and State. The question has been raised do we really need both a sub and a district tournament?

yea i guess your right beeson it would not take away from the fun. but every one is make weight or you do not wrestle so if you did not make weight who cares your in the next weight class i believe it would take something away from the sport.

so you follow that all year then comes subs, disticts and state, would you be required to make the same weight for all 3, or could you go up or down the day of weigh in.

Just to make this clear. The Kids would still have to make the weight entered at subs for the District and State Tournaments.

I quess I will explain my thoughts on that a little better; I believe it would take away the discipline of some of the kids. Because if they did slack a little and didn't maintain their weight they would still be able to wrestle because the system would let them in another weight class. This is a sport where everything is competitive, where kids watch what they eat and exercise regularly to maintain the weight that they are going to enter; now why reward the kids that slack and didn't make weight. I don't see how that is fair for the kids that put in the hard work to maintain a certain weight. This is my opinion and my opinion only, I believe what ever weight you enter you make that weight or you do not wrestle. It instills hardwork and discipline in our wrestlers.

I agree, with trackwrestling, and all the posts I have read about kids missing weight this past weekend and the past posts against cutting weight and for mat side weigh-ins, why not just move the kids up if they miss weight. Next year if a kid misses weight for subs, just move them up. This would be about the kids. And, by the way my kid ate 3 or 4 slices of pizza and more Friday and was 1.8 lbs under the next day at weigh-ins. I just think a kid who wants to wrestle should be allowed to - and trackwrestling would allow for alot of changes.

wrestling has always been about making weight, now were going to tell them, hey enter at such and such weight, but if you feel likeplaying xbox all week and taking it easy don't worry about it they will let you in the next weight class. thats the problem today with kids every one is trying to make it easy on them, years ago people would say hard work pays off , now if you slack a little don't worry about it. i think it sends the wrong message
