I know he is a big boy now. Wait until they match him up with Brock Lezner. You know thats destined to happen sooner or later if they both find success in it. I was really impressed with Lezner even though he lost to Mir but give him a couple years and I really think he can be good. Lashley I think could be the same.

I met Bobby Lashley at the state tournament and he told me he was going to go in to MMA! I also told him to do better than Lesnar, it was a good fight for lesnar.
From what I understood from watching WWE he was a very good wrestler but I never have seen him wrestle. For real anyway!

sorry man. I had the great pleasure of wrestling him my senior year as well. I moved up from 145 to 152 at regionals and had to face him first off. He technical falled me. He took me down and let me up. That was the only time that I had never been taken down and let up like that ever. I wasnt what you would call a stud but I never really been dominated besides he and Matt Roark from Columbus. I do believe that same 152lb class at regional was the same first through 3rd at state that year. Talk about a tough regional. Mccreary, Lovell from Caney and Hale from Columbus.

I can’t remember who else place for Beloit, but remember this is when there were only 12 weight classes, and there were only 4 medals awarded. Half of Beloit’s team were individual State Champions. I don’t know if anyone else who can boast this accomplishment. With all due respect to the great teams that have won the title, this is the best team I ever saw. They beat everyone they came up against including all the powerhouses of the time.

If what I have been told is correct, That Beloit team had 11 placers and the 12th man was a match away(12 weight classes). He would have placed if there were 5th and 6th place medals given. That may have been the highest 4A number of points ever scored with 12 weights. This is especially tough in a 64 team division. Also consider the number of points given to the top 4 placers is 2-3 points lower when only 4 places are given. On todays scale with 6 places This team would have scored 25-30 more points and again, that is only with 12 weight classes.

Would the other Beloit names be perhaps Klenda, Hewitt, Bemoit or Creager as I recall those also being Beloit standouts from the 80's. I remember those Beloit teams and being in awe of them. It was as if they had a mystique about them. Best I have seen and that includes other 80s greats such as Kapaun Mount Carmel, Ark City, Emporia, Clay Center, Concordia, Columbus and even Effingham.

That Ken Piazza must have been one heck of a Coach !

I'm from Junction City, Lashley's home town. His senior year he was a state champ. I'm pretty sure he went undefeated that year.

Then he wrestled in college. It wasn't D-1. D-2 or something else. He won (i'm pretty sure) two national titles on the college level. He is a very good wrestler. Good on his feet.

Great with fans/kids.

I believe the 185lber was Mark Dietz. Mark could not beat either of the Adams boys at 155 and 167, so he gave up 20 to 30 pounds to be on varsity and placed at state. I would also guess that the HWT was a Heiman (probably Jay or Jeff). I think Klenda, Hewitt and Benoit were earlier than 84. Blaise should be able to help you out here.

That is correct...my apologies. Whit Cox also holds the state record for the fastest pin in a dual, 3 seconds.

1984 - (4A) Johnson, Todd [Beloit] ( 98 lb. ) 1st
1984 - (4A) Treaster, Chad [Beloit] (105 lb. ) 1st
1984 - (4A) Johnson, Toby [Beloit] (112 lb. ) 1st
1984 - (4A) Creager, Brett [Beloit] (119 lb. ) 1st
1984 - (4A) Blanding, Parrish (Beloit) (126 lb.) 3rd
1984 - (4A) Treaster, Matt [Beloit] (132 lb. ) 1st
(3rd 4X state champ in Kansas)
1984 - (4A) Stover, Scott (Beloit) (138 lb. ) Qualifier
1984 - (4A) Riemann, Mike (Beloit ) (145 lb. ) 2nd
1984 - (4A) Adams, Jeff [Beloit] (155 lb. ) 1st
1984 - (4A) Adams, Aaron [Beloit] (167 lb. ) 4th
1984 - (4A) Deets, Mark (Beloit ) (185 lb.) Qualifier
1984 - (4A) Heiman, Jeff (Beloit) (HWT) Qualifier
1984 - (4A) Beloit [Beloit] (Team Champions Beloit 193, runnerup Columbus 81.5)

Here is Beloit's complete roster from 1984. Riemann just missed being the 7th state champ. Stover, Deets, and Heiman all were 1 win from medaling and would have under the current setup. This was also the team that put all 12 wrestlers in the Finals at the Norton Inv. and the Norton 4A sub-state. As I recall the announcer said before the championship round, "It's Beloit against the Rest". Beloit went on to win 6 straight titles, just missing a 7th. They also won 122 straight duals during 1980-1986, and didn't lose a tournament during that stretch.

Ken Piazza came to Beloit in the early '70's fresh out of college from Mankato State (MN). I believe he was from the Chicago area. He built the program and was there through 1983, when Chris Sones was hired. Sones coached the 1984 team, and was at Beloit for 3 years I believe, then the current coach Andy Niemczyk was hired.

Any idea of Coach Piazza or Sones whereabouts these days as well as many of their wrestling greats ? I know I've recently seen the Treaster name at the kid level in 8 & Under.
