WOW ... how close was that ... Team Kansas loses to Team Iowa, 36-37.
After Devon's big win at 171, we had a 35-24 lead. Unfortunately, Joshua Bush and Leo Beck were pinned and Lucas Vincent lost a 2-4, 05 decision.
Next will be Missouri who is losing big to Wisconsin! Perhaps this is the year we will get the better of our neighbors!!

Another tough loss! Score, 36-39.
We were ahead after the 160-pound win by Jake Akin. We lost 3 straight matches before a win by Lucas Vincent.
We battled tough though after digging an early hole. After the first four matches, we trailed, 5-13. Our only points were won at 91-pounds where Missouri forfeited the weight. We followed that up with four consecutive wins by Moeder, DeShazer, Cokeley and Madl ... the score, Kansas 19, Missouri 16.
Shavlik lost a close bout to Kaleb Friedley of Missouri. Chase Nelson won with a fall.
As is always the case with dual competitions, especially close duals, one wonders about all the little things. There are many opportunities in a match where a coach or a wrestler can earn or save a single point. But that is the nature of the beast!!
Next is a very tough Wisconsin ... we will see!!

Wisconsin is too much for us, 53-24. Kansas will wrestle for 7th place. Amazing match between DeShazer and Thielke! DeShazer beat Jesse 7-0 in the 2nd period, which doesn't happen to Thielke very often! Also, Chase Nelson has another big win over a tough Dolezal at 145.

I've just arrived in KC ... we are pitted against a very tough, Oklahoma!
I saw Moeder and Charby lose some close bouts but Cokeley has won the first period!!

Of course I was mistaken thinking that was Oklahoma's top team!!
A highlight of this match was Chase Nelson and a beautiful belly-to-back, back arch for his first 5-pointer!
Also a nice win by Leo Beck!
Next up ... Georgia!

A few of our options have been limited. Chase Nelson moved to the 152-pound class and Devon Keith has injured his elbow in last nights action!
I'll steal a couple of minutes to report on one of last nights matches. That match was between Daniel DeShazer and Jesse Thielke. Thielke hails from Wisconsin and is one of best wrestlers in the Nation at 119-pounds.
After 1-minute of action there was no score and DeShazer won the flip. He quickly lifted Thielke and exposed him. A few in the crowd thought it should have been a 5-pointer which would have ended the period but Daniel was awarded 3. When Thielke got his turn, he returned the favor and lifted and exposed DeShazer's back. As Thielke was the last to score, he won the period, 3-3.
In the second frame Thielke was pressing the action and DeShazer used his patented head-and-arm to score a quick 3. Back on their feet the action resumed and Daniel again threw Thielke for a 3 plus 1 for the hold. Once again a few saw the action as a fall for DeShazer! Daniel did win the period, 7-0.
Thielke learned his lesson, after a bit of chastising by the Wisconsin staff, and avoided the tie-ups. Thielke did manage two takedowns in the decisive third period. I was extremely proud of Daniel, as were many others, as he recognized how close he was to a dramatic win. But it was a loss ... which Daniel DeShazer handled like a gentleman!
