From 1930 to 1965 Kansas wrestling only had one state tournament and zero four time state champions. From 1966 to 1970 there were two state tournaments and still zero four time state champions. In 1971 and 1972 we went to three state tournament format and Doug Duell won his first of four state tournaments in 1972. Since 1973 there have been four state tournaments. However, the distribution of schools and classifications changed throughout the seventies until 1979 when the present system was adopted.
In the 70's there were only two four timers (and Roy Oesser was actually a five timer if you count Grand State as and additional championship, perhaps his toughest!) In the 80's there were three, the 90's five, and in this decade there have already been twelve!!
