Please keep the Tracy family in your prayers. Derek is in the PICU at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. He has several infections going on in his body right now, staph in his blood, a lung infection, and a bone infection that is very hard to treat. The Tracy's are an incredible family who have given so much back to the sport of wrestling and our community. Even though they do not live in Haysville we have adopted them as our own. Derek is an awesome role model for our youth! He lost over 30 pounds last season just by changing his habits. Lance, Patty, Derek, Allen, Spencer - All of Team Haysville is sending you our love and support.

Derek Update:
The MRSA infection has stopped growing and now we need to fight the infection that is already there.
The ARDS lung infection is still VERY BAD and still very life threatening. The X Rays show a slight reduction in swelling so the possibility of Congestive Heart Failure has been greatly reduced.
The long tern effects of ARDS can be very devastating and can end the sports career of a young athlete.
He's still fighting and looks like he's starting to get the advantage.
We want to thank everyone for their kind words, visits, and prayers!
Personal Note: Last Year I read the thread about wrestling family and where has it gone! Well I want to say that the force is strong in Haysville! This wrestling family has rose to the occassion and wrapped their arms around us in our time of need as given us an awesome amount of support. I am forever gratefull for them and all of the wrestling community! We have also recieved calls from other clubs and even kids that Derek wrestled last year.
Thank You all so much for your thoughts and prayers! I know Derek hopes to be back on the mat this year but if not then he will surely be in the stands supporting the sport that he loves so very much!
Thank You, The Tracy Family

We are glad to see Derek has made some improvement and hope all of you continue to think and pray for Derek.
We will continue to be here for the Tracy's and hope that they call on us when needed for strength, food, help getting the other boys to practices or whatever is needed!!

Thank You for all your comments and prayers!
I wish I had better news but it was a tough weekend for him! With all the lung damage he may be on a ventalator for over a month! We may even need to move him to Childrens Mercy in KC!
I will keep you posted!

From Lance Tracy (His Dad)
He showed BIG improvement in his lungs yesterday! Almost 50%! ALL infection has stopped growning! Now they can fight existing! They will keep up what they are doing and maybe even try to wake him up in a few days. They are bringing in a kidney Dr but they don't think it is a HUGE issue!
Keep up the prayers and well wishes!!

Derek Update 9/2 Derek is really starting to trend upward. Late last night the Bruce and Tyler Woodruff from the Goddard Wrestling Club came up to visit. Derek was still about the same. After they left Derek really started showing improvement. They are starting to turn down his sedation and he is actually breathing on his own. He is still on the vent but only as a safety precaution. This is a HUGE improvement!
There are some people in the wrestling community we really want to thank: Team Haysville Wrestling! You have been like a 2nd family to us! We love all of you guys so very much! Goddard Wrestling Club! Wes and Tanner Gardner, your support has been awesome! Bruce and Tyler Woodruff, last night was very special. The gift you left was just way too much! We want to thank all of you for the support and helping Derek last year become a better wrestler. Wolfpack Wrestling Club! Thank you for your support and your visits. You guys have been very supportive of him and were a big part of his success last year. Clearwater Wrestling Club! Thank you for your kind words and prayers. I really enjoyed our visit last night. Please let us know if there is anything we can do for you!
I also want to throw out a very special thank you to PBB. Even though we have never met, he is a fellow wrestling dad on this sight that offered up the kindness of his home when he heard that we might have to go Childrens Mercy Hospital in KC! That was a very kind offer. I am very glad we didnt need to take you up on your offer but it was soooo very moving.
I also want to throw out a special thank you to the sport of wrestling. Dr. Dimitrios Stephanopoulos (the head of PICU at St. Franscis Hospital in Wichita) told us that he totally believes that he fact that Derek is involved is sports (especially wrestling and football) is what gave him the "fight and will" to pull through this. Some kids, with less conditioning and will power, would not have been able to pull through this.
Wrestling is a Great Sport and the feeling of community and family is amazing! The Tracy Family would like to thank all of you for you prayers and suuport. We still have a long road of recovery but we are over the hill.
Thank you all so much and God Bless You All! The Tracy Family

Derek's vent was removed yesterday around 2pm. He has found his phone and many of us have been blessed with phone calls! It is terrific to see Derek's progress in all of this. He has given us some very touching moments even when he could not talk!!

I have never seen water turn to wine! I have never seen someone part a sea!
But, what I have seen over the last few days is pretty amazing! It was just a few weeks ago that they were giving Derek less than a 50% chance. It was just a little over a week ago they gave us the option to go to Children’s Mercy in KC.
Over the last few days Derek has had his vent tube removed! All of his other tubes (other than an IV line) REMOVED! He is out of ICU! They moved him to a regular room! His lung's X Rays are 100% Clear! He is up and walking around! He is on NO OXYGEN (they said he probably would be for 6 to 12 months after he got out of the hospital)!! He has no pain in his leg! The nurses on his new floor show no record of a fracture of the leg anywhere in his file!
I had a family member ask us if maybe we over exaggerated the extent of his illness. I was soooo upset! We have had 50+ people in there with us over the last few weeks and they have heard what the Doctors have told us about his condition and possible outcome!
This is a gift! This request was heard through 100's of prayers!
I cannot begin to explain how life changing this whole situation has been!
I owe all of you that prayed for us and my son a HUGE thank you! I could type all night and I don't think the entire level of my appreciation can be expressed in words!
Thank you all for everything! I will continue to keep you updated! May the goodness that you all have shown us be given back to ALL of you 100 times over!
The Tracy Family!!!

BLT - We haven't been on this Forum for months, so we are just getting the news about Derek right now. We are thankful for the progress he has shown and will be praying for a full recovery. The Schroeders' shared your families weight loss story with us last season and it was very inspirational. As you mentioned in an earlier post, that type of determination is probably what helped him pull through. For the record, your previous post was very moving.

Eric, You have been very kind to Derek. He really looked up to you last year. Thanks of your prayers & friendship! KMac Thank you very much for your thoughts and prayers! Well the blessings just keep coming!!! Derek is coming home TOMORROW!! I can't even begin to express how overwhelmed we are for this. It was just a little over a week ago I thought we might be going to KC. AND, They are now saying that the MRI is showing no fracture in his leg! I can't believe all of this! NO FRACTURE??? I can't say that I attend a church on regular basis. I wish that I could say that I went often. But this whole situation has renewed my beliefs and many of our friends as well.
Our family has been truely blessed. I can't find the words to express all of these emotions. We just have a lot of thanks that need to be given. I can't wait for Derek to walk up to people and tell them thank you himself.
To all of our wrestling family, THANK YOU!
The Tracy Family!!!

Once again, please put Derek in your thoughts and prayers. Derek's foot was ran over by a lawn mower last night. He has had some surgery last night into early this morning. There are still possible surgery ahead to fuse bones and right now they have managed to keep his big toe as long as infection does not set in. It is pretty scary situation since he just had MERSA Staph less than a month ago.
