Tim Elliott EDMOND (Oct. 29) – Jarrett Edison’s second-period fall capped a late comeback that lifted the Bronze team to a 24-23 win over the Blue in Central Oklahoma’s annual intrasquad dual Wednesday night at Hamilton Field House. The Bronze won the final two matches to rally for the win, getting an 11-5 decision from Kenny Meredith at 184 pounds before Edison’s fall in 3:27 at 197 to give his team the narrow victory. Each team won six matches in the dual, with the Bronze also getting a second-period pin from 141-pounder Jordan Edison – Jarrett’s younger brother – in pulling out the come-from-behind win. “I saw some good things, but it’s obviously early and it showed,” UCO coach David James said. “We made a ton of mistakes, which was to be expected to some extent, and we know there’s a long season ahead of us. “Jarrrett coming out in the last match knowing his team needed a fall and getting it was a good sign of how far he’s come.” There were five bonus-point wins in the dual, with the Bronze picking up two falls while the Blue had a fall and two major decisions. Freshman Willie Gunter had an impressive debut in scoring an 18-5 major decision at 125 for the Blue, racking up eight takedowns. All-American Tim Elliott had little trouble in scoring a second-period fall at 133 and Cody Rowell had a 9-1 major decision at 174. The Edisons had both Bronze team pins, with Jordan needing 5:21 to score his fall in one of two matches at 141 before Jarrett had the winner. The Bronchos will hold another intrasquad match next Wednesday in Ponca City and then open the season for real on Nov. 8, hosting Grand Canyon for a 2 p.m. dual Bronze 24, Blue 23 125: Willie Gunter, Blue, major dec. Nick Rice, 18-5. 133: Trison Graham, Bronze, dec. Tyson Bernardi, 8-2. 133: Tim Elliott, Blue, pinned Ben Johnson, 3:55. 141: Jordan Edison, Bronze, pinned Michael Walkup, 5:21. 141: Matt Bryan, Blue, dec. Nice work from the Kansas boys and the old Labette boys. It looks like three former Cards will be starting for UCO. Anybody have any info on Elmore? He is a talented wrestler...I thought he would crack the line up this year.

Tough Start Tough Start Tim Elliott WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Nov. 16) – It was a tough day for Central Oklahoma in the first tournament of the early season, with the Bronchos placing five individuals in the top-six while suffering a couple of key injuries at the Central Missouri Open here Sunday. Tommy McCarty, wrestling unattached at 174 pounds, was the top finisher with a third-place showing, while 133 Tim Elliott and 165 Mikey Morgan both took fourth and 149 Colby Robinson and 197 Jarrett Edison each finished sixth. Edison, a returning national qualifier, was on his way to an easy win in the consolation semifinals before suffering an injury that forced him to medical forfeit that match and his placement bout.“We had a pretty rough day,” UCO coach David James said. “This was the toughest competition we’ve seen at this tournament and we had some hard losses. We got some guys banged up that we’re going to have to get checked out and then we’ll go from there. “We had a lot of guys get some good mat time, but we’ve got to get a little more physical and a little tougher.” Elliott opened the tournament with a third-period fall, an 18-5 major decision and a 4-2 victory before dropping a 4-1 decision to OSU’s Chris Notte in the semifinals. The senior came back with a first-period fall in the consolation semis, but was pinned in the third-place match by McKendree’s Wade Lowe. Edison had close 7-6 and 5-2 wins in his first two matches and then lost a 3-1 sudden-victory decision to OU’s Kyle Bergstedt in the quarterfinals. The sophomore came back with 9-0 and 8-2 wins and had a sizeable lead in the consolation semis before suffering the injury that forced him to forfeit. UCO continues its early-season tournament schedule next Sunday at the Missouri Open. Central Missouri Open (UCO Results) Consolation Finals 133: Wade Lowe, McKendree, pinned Tim Elliott, UCO, 3:49. 165: Alex Meade, OSU, dec. Mikey Morgan, UCO, 6-2. 174: Tommy McCarty, UCO (Unattached), dec. Josh Bryant, McKendree, 5-3. UCO brought out the "Labette South" team for the National Duels. Five of ten guys are former All-Americans for Labette Community College (Elliott, Berens, Elmore, Morgan, McCarty)! All five earned a victory this round too. Get em' Cards...I mean Broncos. Does anyone know when Edison is expected back?

Not until next year. He is rehabing now but won't be able to get on the mat until summer. He is doing well and working hard. We are REALLY wanting to be in Iowa...but sometimes we don't get everything we want. This will be the worst finish for the Bronchos in at least 15 years. Go Bronchos...keep working it...the Labette guys are saving the day though.
Thanks for asking about Jarrett...he and we are really missing it.

The UCO team is down. It didn't really look like that to start the year, but they are struggling a bit. Yeah, The Labette boys at UCO had a good showing today the first two duel (9-1 combined)...I'm anxious to see the results of the Mercyhurst duel. I'm glad to see Tommy and Luke in the lineup now. Hopefully they can add some firepower...It's going to be tough for them to win a title as a team this year though. Berens has really wrestled well so far this year too. What happen to Jarrett? They could use him...can he get a med. redshirt?
Intermat had great coverage last year, it's super slow this year.

Ike,
Can UCO still go for 3rd? Jarrett thought that they lost in the quarters so they couldn't advance, just wrestling back for matches but it is a regular bracket so it looks like they can fight their way back...Do you know?
Ms. Jenni
I will PM you about Jarrett...yes on the medical red shirt.

I don't think they can, but I'm not sure. The brackets don't look like they can.

I've got a feeling former Labette Cardinal Mikey Morgan will be making a move back into the rankings after his three matches yesterday.
165 Mikey Morgan (UCO) WBD #1 Kyle Keane (UPJ) D 5-4 165 Mikey Morgan (UCO) WBD #7 (@ 174) Tim Matheson (MMK) M 20-8 165 Mikey Morgan (UCO) WBF #8 Tad Merritt (SCS) F 6:19
Scott Berens (former Cardinal) seems to be benefiting from the move down after Tim Elliott made his move to 25's.
133 Scott Berens (UCO) WBD #5 Michael Baxter (MER) M 14-4
Tim and Scott will both have a challenge in front of them in the next hour. Tim faces #5 ranked Eddie Lopez from Western State as his first ranked opponent at 125. Scott will face #6 Marques Bravo at 133. Former Cardinal Tommy McCarty will also face a ranked foe in #6 Larry Wilbanks. This should be a good duel with UCO showing force in the lower weights and Western with firepower in the upper weights. I think if Finn was back...they win this duel. Does anyone know what is up with Finn? Morgan may not be wrestling this duel either...he has been a little banged up lately.

EDMOND (Jan. 17) – Dustin Finn’s third-period fall in the final match capped a late rally that enabled No. 5-ranked Central Oklahoma to escape with a 20-20 tie against sixth-rated Adams State Saturday afternoon at Hamilton Field House.
The Grizzlies jumped out to an 11-0 lead after the first three matches and led 14-3 midway through the dual before UCO got back-to-back bonus wins from Mikey Morgan and Tommy McCarty to tie it.
ASC then won decisions at the next two weights to surge in front 20-14, but Finn arranged the tie with his 12th pin of the season.
The top-ranked junior heavyweight broke a scoreless tie with Jeff Schossow in the second period with a two-point near-fall and then turned Schossow early in the final stanza to get the fall at 5:24.
“In a lot of ways we were fortunate to come out with a tie, but we also lost a couple of matches we shouldn’t have,” UCO coach David James said. “Bonus points are huge in duals like this and we certainly proved that.”
The Grizzlies broke on top at 125 pounds where second-ranked Arsenia Barksdale built a 10-1 lead through two periods before holding on for a 10-6 triumph over Tim Elliott, with ASC getting another decision at 133 and a technical fall at 141 from top-rated Raymond Dunning in going on top 11-0.
Luke Elmore gave UCO its first win with a clutch 8-1 upset of fourth-ranked Joey Deaguero at 149, using a takedown and three-point near-fall in the first period to take control of that match.
ASC came back to get a 2-0 win at 157 from No. 3 Noomis Jones over Kelly Henderson to make it 14-3 before intermission, during which UCO recognized its 1979 NAIA national championship team.
The Bronchos came back strong after the brief break, getting a first-period fall at 165 from Morgan – his 12th win in 13 outings – and a 16-0 technical fall from McCarty at 174. Morgan needed just 1:22 to score his seven fall of the season, while McCarty had five near-falls and took just 3:04 to end his match early.
That tied the dual at 14-all, with ASC getting a 4-1 win at 184 and a 3-2 victory at 197 on a takedown with 18 seconds remaining to grab the 20-14 lead and set the stage for Finn’s dramatics.
UCO, now 9-3-1 on the year, returns to action Thursday when it hosts Fort Hays State at 7 p.m.
UCO 20, Adams State 20 125: Arsenia Barksdale, ASC, dec. Tim Elliott, 10-6. 133: Dominic Valencia, ASC, dec. Scott Berens, 8-5. 141: Raymond Dunning, ASC, tech. fall. Michael Walkup, 15-0 (6:03). 149: Luke Elmore, UCO, dec. Joey Deaguero, 8-1. 157: Noomis Jones, ASC, dec. Kelly Henderson, 2-0. 165: Mikey Morgan, UCO, pinned Jacob Jurney, 1:22. 174: Tommy McCarty, UCO, tech. fall Don Medina, 16-0 (3:04). 184: Kyle Sand, ASC, dec. Danie Morrison, 4-1. 197: Torben Walters, ASC, dec. Zach James, 3-2. Hvy: Dustin Finn, UCO, pinned Jeff Schossow, 5:24.

Bronchos Fall To FHSU
1/22/2009 9:57:08 PM EDMOND (Jan. 22) – A shocking turnaround at 165 pounds led to a stunning upset as unranked Fort Hays State knocked off No. 5 Central Oklahoma, 21-19 Thursday night at Hamilton Field House.
The Tigers won three of the last four matches to pull off only their second win in 28 tries against UCO, with Troy Lussenhop’s second-period fall at 165 the momentum-changer and Tyler Gonzales’ 4-1 victory at 184 in the final bout the clincher.
The Bronchos appeared in good shape after overcoming an early 6-0 deficit to take a 15-9 lead with three matches remaining and No. 3 Mikey Morgan on the mat at 165. Things looked even better after Morgan took a 5-0 lead over Lussenhop while nearly scoring a first-period fall.
But Lussenhop turned the tables in the second stanza, catching Morgan in a banana split early and scoring a fall just 25 seconds into the period to put the Tigers on top 18-15.
UCO went back in front 19-18 on Tommy McCarty’s 15-1 major decision at 174 to set the stage for Gonzales, who used a takedown with 17 seconds remaining to break a 1-1 tie with Daniel Morrison and secure the win that capped the monumental upset.
“Fort Hays has a good team and I knew it was going to be a battle,” UCO coach David James said. “Obviously the match at 165 was a big one, but we had some chances at other weights that we didn’t take advantage of.
“It’s a tough loss, but nobody’s going to feel sorry for us. We have to learn from it and keep getting better.”
The dual started at 197 pounds and FHSU jumped to a quick 6-0 lead with a first-period fall, but the Bronchos rebounded to win the next three matches.
Top-ranked Dustin Finn had a pair of takedowns in a methodical 6-2 win at heavyweight and UCO went in front at 125 when Tim Elliott reversed Tommy Edgmon to his back in the third period and scored his eighth fall of the season at the 5:28 mark.
Scott Berens followed with a dominating 7-0 shutout at 133 to up the lead to 12-6 before FHSU’s second-ranked James Annon pulled out a 4-2 sudden-victory decision over No. 3 Colby Robinson at 141.
Robinson appeared close to scoring the winning takedown midway through the one-minute sudden-victory period, but Annon came out on top in a scramble to secure the win and pull the Tigers within 12-9.
UCO prevailed in another overtime match at 149, with Luke Elmore getting past Levi Younkin 8-6 on a takedown with 13 seconds left in the second sudden victory period.
That made it 15-9, but FHSU rallied to win three of the final four matches to pull off the upset. McCarty had the lone win down the stretch, piling up four takedowns and two near-falls in an easy 15-1 major decision.
The Bronchos, now 9-4-1 on the year, return to action next week with road duals against No. 4 Nebraska-Kearney and No. 1 Nebraska-Omaha.
