Huskies Open Season with 35-4 Win Over Campbellsville
NIU falls to UT-Chattanooga and Purdue in later action.

WEST LaFAYETTE, Ind. - The Northern Illinois wrestling team opened the dual meet season with a 35-4 victory over Campbellsville, Saturday, at the Boilermaker Challenge.

Redshirt sophomores Tristen DeShazer (Wichita, Kan., Wichita West) and Vince Castillo (Western Springs, Ill./Lyons Township) both pinned their opponents, while Mike Ryan (Kankakee, Ill./Bishop McNamara) and Bryan Deutsch (Columbia City, Ind./Columbia City) both earned major decisions.

DeShazer pinned Tommy Pretty at 133 pounds in 2:41, giving the Huskies six points.

The Huskies early success didn't translate to later in the day, as NIU fell to Tennessee-Chattanooga, 28-12, and lost to Purdue 32-9.

In the Purdue match, DeShazer scored a big win at 133, pinning Jake Fleckenstein in just 24 seconds. Saevre also won his bout against the Boilermakers, edging Christopher Kasten with a 3-2 decision.

The Huskies continue the year at the Nebraska-Omaha Open, Saturday, Nov. 22.
