Last year I proposed that the tournament director create a summary bio on each champion and email it to the coaches and have the vote required by the following Wednesday. Coaches are focused on getting their wrestlers ready for their matches. They are not watching other wrestlers. I really think the OW is supposed to be about the outstanding performance of the tournament or something outstanding in the tournament. Not just the best wrestler there. An unseeded wrestler winning it all, a wrestler who wins the toughest bracket, a wrestler who shows outstanding courage even if they weren't a champion, a awesome upset in the finals, one who pins everyone to generate the maximum points for their team... I agree with Moeder, the spirit of the award just isn't there. So if you have to give out the award at the tourney how about forming an OW committee that isn't coaching or officiating. They have to watch all of the finals and know what they were seeded, how they performed in the prelims, etc. The process definitely needs to be improved.
