Wichita Heights pulls off the win in an exciting dual. Final score 33-25. Congrats to Coach Church and the Heights squad. They were pumped up ready to wrestle and Coach Church made some brilliant decisions line up wise.

Very cool. I was wondering how that turned out. Thanks a bunch for the update.
So, how many years old was BC's dual record -- and please tell us more about the line-up decisions.
Thanks.

Curtis,
Actually, Heights is not the GWAL champs yet. The City League has a different system combining the results of the dual season and the City League tournament this weekend. It sure does put them in the drivers seat though.
As for the dual.....incredible. Here is what I have for the lineups (although these was a ton of shifting and I did not get all the heights kids' names. I also might have a couple of the scores "in the ball park" so to speak, it was tough to concentrate.
103 Bornhorst BC def Neal WH (6-2) 112 U Deshaser WH def Zeigler BC (9-1) 119 Davis WH def S Meyer BC (Fall) 125 D Deshazer WH def Penka BC (8-2) 130 Henson BC def Nelson WH (7-1) 135 (didn't get name) WH def C Meyer BC (Fall) 140 Maple WH def Dugan BC (18-3) 145 Reed WH def Mainz BC (8-3) 152 Mies BC def Henderson WH (8-3) 160 Detmer BC def Haskins WH (Fall) 171 Keith BC def (didn't get name) WH (5-2) 189 Nelson WH def Hirshler BC (Fall) 215 Cole BC def Larsen WH (16-4) 285 Marquez BC def Neal WH (3-1 OT)
If I get something wrong, I apologize in advance.... :-) It was a loud and tense place.
Chuck

Thank you for the complete results.
Also, the dual streak was 105 dating back to 2001.

Heights would have to come in 3rd or 4th place in the city league tournament not to win city league. I guess anything is possible, but they looked pretty good tonight. Tonight I would like to congradulate my son on a job well done. I am very proud.I'm sure he is very thankfull to his mentors, they know who they are. Thanks David.

Thanks dad. It was an amazing night for WRESTLING. We estimated over 1,300 people in the gym... maybe as many as 14 or 1,500. The boys were pumped up on both sides and the action was tense and amazing. I truly believe this was my best night in wrestling in the 15+ years that I have been involved. This night could not of been possible without the amazing group of GENTLEMEN that I coach, Bishop Carroll for having the dominant program and fine young men on their team, and the fans of this sport that knewlast night was going to be amazing and they came out ready to cheer and make it an unbelievable night it was.

I went to the Wichita Heights vs Wichita Southeast basketball game. A mych hyped, highly anticipated game. The gym was packed, standing room only. The crowd was fired up... and the action didn't disappoint...
I also went to the Bishop Carroll vs Wichita Heights wrestling dual. The gym was packed early on (the lines for admission were long). The crowd was intense and fired-up from the onset. The environment was electric! Never seen anything like it, and I'd venture a guess that it might be some time before this type atmosphere repeats itself. Surprisingly, one of the more intense matches was the 135 lbs match: Scrimscher (Heights) vs Meyer (Carroll). The roar of the crowd was deafening, at times. The level of intensity in the competitors (and for that matter, the fans) was palpable in every match. It was a grand night for wrestling.
Heights won with grace and Carroll surrendered their "streak" with equal grace and dignity. Sportsmanship (obviously steeped in mutual respect for each program) was evident highly throughout the night. No unnecessary histrionics in either victory nor defeat.
Much kudos to the Wichita media (both print and voice), which gave this anticipated match-up significant play. This year, our local media really gave the sport of wrestling some attention, which has been in short supply in the past.
What a night!

Yes, very cool. Big Props to Church, his assistants and of course the wrestlers and their parents and families. Job well done. City League Rocks. Thanks for bringing the title back to the public sector though. No hating intended. Also congrats to BC for all of the success that they have had in the past and will surely have in the future. Best wishes to all Greater Wichita City League teams the rest of this season.

It was an awesome dual to attend. Congrats to both schools for their effort and sportsmanship.
The 135 lb match that Svo69 referred to was awesome. Both kids wrestled extremely well and they were not the headliners, but the younger, less experienced kids in the dual. This match proved to be a big turning point as the Carroll kid fought to an 8-7 lead with short time remaining only to get pinned in the final few seconds (not sure of the time off the top of my head). This match was a 9 pt swing in the overall score because it appeared the Carroll kid may ride him out for the decision and it proved to be a big part of the final spread of the dual. Great match to watch and great dual as well. I hope the City League Championships can provide that much excitement tomorrow. Good luck everyone!
