There are more hidden, opportunity costs that you have to consider with football. How much does a stadium and field cost? It only gets used a few times a year. A gym should be in constant use. From a business perspective it would be hard to justify the cost of a football stadium when it is unused 95% of the time. I am pretty sure football is a sacred cow but I would definitely like to see how much it costs and how much it makes.
