my name is Charles King. I am with the Wichita Aztecas. My son is Robert King. He weighs 135 now thanks to Team Haysville and Tony Martinez. I appreciate what you guys did with my child. But look people, this particular kid had no way to state under the current guidelines. 125 and under. huh. what a joke? he weighed 152 at valley center. ask steve foster. he had to enter him at 10 and under 150. this kid worked real hard and lost all that weight for what? to wait til next year? that is so stupid since i can name 5 to 7 kids who could fill the bracket? what about the 11 kids in this years bracket? some of them will be 8 and under hwt next year. oh and they will be 130 plus. ned and will, we need to step up. the rule needs to be changed. i am bringing robert to state. see you then.

Charles,
It has been a HUGE pleasure having Robert in our wrestling room. His love for the sport is awesome. It is a true shame that he can not go to state.
I also agree that they need to add another weight class at eight and under. Please keep us informed as to what your plans are to try to change the weight classes. I for one will support you in anyway!

I agree. Another good wrestler who placed at USJOC & Tulsa Nationals from TOHK is in that mix as well. I would also like to see the 10U expanded as well. Too many lower groups. All but one of the HWTS that are wrestling 170lb group are right at 170lb so how many more couldn't make the weight? Let me in on your progress.

Thanks, Troy Fowler

If you would like to see changes (additions) in weight classes, you will need your request to Ned Price by July 31.

This is the rule that is listed in our Kids Constitution -

c. Any recommendation for rule changes from the general membership must be sent to the Executive Director or the Kids Official Representative by July 31st.

Probably because we have studied the weight classes especially the heavyweights to death.

so why not just put a heavyweight class in and be done with it!! it doesnt affect my kid but are we not in it for all kids to participate and be able to participate!! one more class wouldnt be a hassle in each age group and if there is only 5 entries so be it!!! let the kids wrestle!!!!! my opinion!!!!!!!!!!

If your kid or someone else's wants to walk thru state and get a medal please pm me and I will send you a medal to the address you provide. Otherwise, there are heavyweight classes in all the age groups and ones that were arrived at sometimes after YEARS of studies.

but dont u think if there was a heavyweight div some more kids might go out for wrestling?? like if the lowest weight was 55 do u think 40 lbers would go out ???? same way of thinking, i am just trying to get kids to get out and wrestle not a medal, kids today need to get out and excercise and learn valuable lessons and i know wrestling wil do that for them!! so its more than a medal, i was a heavy kid at one time and i was told i couldnbt do things because of my weight, me being hardheaded i done them anyway! but somekids just give up and dont do nothing!! what i am trying tosay there might be more kids out there if they had the oppurtunity to wrestle would do it!! how many kids all year long would go more if there was more oppurtunity for them at a state level??? i think u would be surprised!!!! my opinion!!!!

It is always a problem at the upper or lower ends of the weight classes. The light weights have the same issue. We had a couple kids in 12U last year that choose not to wrestle subs because the lighter weight was eliminated and they would have been giving up quite a few pounds.

NO! We used to have unlimited heavyweight classes and lots of heavies walked their way thru subs, districts and state to a medal. Only after years of study and paring the divisions down have we arrived at what is reasonable weight classes.

and this where i call bs!! competition is who goes!! if you gave heavy kids a chance you might be surprised!! and then it would be reasonable!!!! so if u put in a heavyweight class it would be the end of al wrestling?? these kids deserve the chance to compete as well as a 32 pounder!!! i will stand up for what i think is right and this is wrong and i dont have a dog in this fight except i am in it for all kids light and heavy!!!!

We gave them a chance, they didn't show up.

Keep up this tread. The naysayers will eventually go away. The facts are out there. There are lots of kids who fit this bill and will be either not allowed to wrestle or will not go out because of the current policies. It is also inconsistent with the programs in other states that are around us. That makes us here in KS backwards or discriminatory. Either way, kids are being left out.

I find it interesting that this topic has come up almost every year for the last 5 years and still it is treated as a non-issue. What does it take to become an issue?

Sportsfan02 I don't think anyone is wanting to walk their way through anything. I have driven all over this state and many others to get my son sound competion. We went to Maize this year (a four hour drive for us)because we wanted to wresle the 2008 125 8 and under state champ. Well guess what, he didn't show up because he was late for our match. But he finally showed up. I went to the tournament directors to get him put back on the bracket. They just wanted to have an exhibtion match but I wanted him on the bracket or nothing. Well they put him back on and my son got beat by him. (And it was a darn good match.) So my son didn't get to go home with that awesome belt they had for first place. Was my son mad at me for getting that kid back on the bracket? Damn right he was and I'm sure the other kids in the bracket were too. But like I told my son if you want that belt then you have to earn it and beat all the kids. So I don't need to hear how these "heavies" just want to walk through to be a state champ. I can tell you, the 8 and under 125 pound bracket would have been a different story if the champ from last year was able to wrestle along with the 3-5 other kids who weigh over 125. If you ask me, the kids this year pretty much had an easy walk through in this bracket because as you put the "heavies" weren't allowed to show up. And before you get off and start talking about how heavy these "heavies" really are maybe you should take a look at these kids before you talk smack on them. And just so you know my "heavy" son went to Nebraska to wrestle since he was too "heavy" for Kansas this weekend!

hold up here. i dont care about a medal. i have plenty of them. as a matter of fact, i can order my own through any supplier. thats not what we are fighting for. my son put the work in just like anybody elses. i have been to tournaments every weekend since january 1st. except for park city. i took that weekend off.it makes me sick when i walk around looking at kids my sons size knowing he should be in the mix too at state. i have only been involved in usaks wrestling for 2 years now. i knew robert couldn,t compete at the state level last year so i didn,t so i just let it go. but this year he was willing to work hard. he wanted to go to state. its done now and he is over it. but this weekend he was chomping at the bit watching all them kids wrestle. plus, i spent alot of money on him to wrestle. nobody refused my money this year. all the clubs took my 15 bucks and put him in a bracket. some of the tournament directors bent over backwards to make sure my kid got to wrestle. and i thank them for that. my point is this. if kids this size cant wrestle at state and usa guidelines are being used(which they are not), i guess kansas should not allow these kids to wrestle at all. it seems like discrimination to being overweight, right or wrong?

I would be willing to bet that there are more (heavy) 8 year olds than 40 and 43 pounders combined. IMO the state could easily eliminate the 40 and 43 pound weight class and add a HWT division.

I would be curious to know how many of the kids at 40 & 43 were actually 7 & 8 year olds. I would suggest you research the last several state tournaments. This might help your arguement.

Year after year a debate begins about 6u kids being allowed to wrestle at State. I hear comments that "they do, they can wrestle 8U". Typically, the only 6u kids that benefit are the little guys. Why.........because they are wrestling 6u kids. I'll stop with that...I'm about to open up a whole new thread.

Good luck !!

Greg,

I think I beat you to the punch this time. Check out the thread Bronze Card Online. By the way, congrats to Dylan on his placing at State. You both have to be mighty proud.

One more thing, I hope you found your home when you got back to Pratt. My parents said they had 28 inches of snow and a 10 foot high, 75 foot long snow drift in their backyard. That is just insane!
