Jeff Vesta (Kansas) vs. Matt Correa (California)
On their feet both of these wrestlers seldom gave an inch. After 1.30 of the first, Vesta was given the top position. Jeff quickly closed out the period using a series of high guts. Vesta wins, 6-0.
As the 30 second segment was approaching in the second, Vesta tried a head-and-arm which Correa countered for 1. Vesta survived the par terre but the period ended, 0-1.
The final stanza was much the same as neither wrestler could gain a takedown. Jeff was given his choice of position and he opted top. But Correa had shored up his defense ... Jeff loses the period and the match.
Jeff Vesta settles for 8th and he is an All-American!
