I agree with your point, however the Newton TOC is a highly competitive tournament and developing a teams (individual wrestler) skill level is of paramount importance to the coach and in order to accomplish this goal, mat time is essential.

As you well know, your child already has determined which of his awards are more meaningful to him than others, and to a highly skilled wrestler who has suffered an unexpected loss during the tournament, a third, fourth, fifth, etc., award is meaningless. To an unexperienced wrestler, a third, fourth, fifth place finish (and award) MAY be the confidence boost this wrestler needs to help the wrestler advance to the next level.
