one of the top hs wrestlers in ks right now didn't qualify for state until 12u. i have always told my son that no one remembers who won 6u state, except for the parents of that kid. no one gets into college because they were a 6u stud. my 5 year old son wrestled 4 tournamets this year- #1- 4th out of 4, #2 3rd out of 5, #3 2nd out of 6, #4 6th out of 6. he has officially retired after each one of these tournaments and i said OK. then he comes out of retirement and wants to go to the tourneys with his buddies, i said OK. BUT every kid is different, you can't assume that parents are burning these kids out. some kids need to compete and be pushed. some kids have the desire even at 6 years old, to be the best. i have seen it first hand on two different occasions. so don't jump to too many conclusions. good luck to all who go for it, we will see you in about 10 years.
