Hey folks,

Hello! I was interested in wrestling for somewhere in Colorado.. does anybody know of schools near Denver or so that offer wrestling? Hoping to transfer.. Thanks!

Well, Denver sucks and the schools with wrestling near Denver aren't so good. Western State, Adams State, and CSU-Pueblo would be my recomendations. Adams and Western are always competitive. Gunnison (Western) is a cool town in a nice location but extremely cold in the winter. Alamosa (Adams St.) is not such a cool town but they always have a good team and always have some openings to fill in there line up. CSU-Pueblo is an up and coming school with a good coach. Location isn't perfect but not bad. It's on the front range probably two hours from Denver. Near Denver is Colorado School of Mines. They have a below average team and it is pretty selective acceptance. Northern Colorado (DI) is in closer to Denver but they are having a hard time improving much. Mesa State is in Grand Junction...don't care for the town but the team is decent. I think that covers all of them...Hope that helps.

Why is Alamosa not a cool town? I've only been there once but it looked beautiful from what I saw.

It is in a beautiful location in the San Luis Valley with close access to really nice spots. Alamosa is also a wrestling town. Okay, it's not uncool it just doesn't have the energy of some of the other mountain towns.

Alamosa is not "trendy" like some mountain towns but a solid community. I have a friend that pastors a church there. The beauty of the sand dunes and surrounding mountains would be a draw for me! Adams State has a good reputation in preparing teachers.

I'm not saying "trendy". I guess a youthful energy is more what I mean. There are still several small towns in Colorado with a youthful energy that aren't overexposed "trendy" tourist towns. Durango is an overexposed "trendy" tourist town but it would still be great to go to school at Ft. Lewis if they had wrestling.

Alamosa is close to the South San Juans, the best chunk of Mountains in the west in my opinion. Easy access to other cool spots too. I've spent a decent amount of time traveling through, working, and watching wrestling in and around Alamosa and it's okay. It would be much better to retire there than to be 20 there.

You can select exactly what you are looking for and it gives you a list of all the schools that match your criteria. You can see how the schools rank academically. For wrestling info, you’ll have to do your own research as far as rankings, coaches, roster, etc.

For instance, we searched for Physical therapy program, urban or suburban (as opposed to rural, which is an option) within 5 hours of our zip code & with a men’s wrestling program. About 8-10 schools met our criteria. This site helps narrow down the schools so you can start your own research. For instance we eliminated one school based on their very low graduation rate. A college coach said we were probably the only people he knew who would care about that. Don’t know, but you have to decide what is important to you. Good Luck!
