Spent the day in Wichita yesterday, great facility!
Had a wrestler on mat 9 and 11 all day so I sit on the opposite side of the arena to video with a clear shot. Most of my video is blocked with refs or coaches, not reffing or coaching, just standing there having a discussion in between mats during matches. I swear during the second match on mat 9 the 3 refs (who weren't reffing) moved to block my view whenever there was a takedown.
It wasn't until approximately 7:30 last night before an announcement was made for these individuals to take a knee.
We all get irritated when parents are at matside, we should be in the stands, but if you have a need to be between the mat at a tournament take a knee or sit!

Same thing happened around mats 1&2 there were alot of people standing around the mats so we missed what happened- we follow the rules by staying in the stands to tape- everyone including the refs need to follow the rules matside

Your right. You missed your kids match because of some inconsiderate matt-side jerks. I am sorry this happend to you and some of the other mothers. My wife is pretty sick of it too. In the future I will help all of you out by reminding the guys to take a nee..

i wasn't at park city, but i will say this: if parents, grandparents, fans, etc. would leave the first two rows of seating for wrestlers, and coaches, at most venues the viewing would improve. not trying to start a war here just trying to imporove the sport.

The Hartman Arena is wonderful for wrestling tournaments- sunken arena so you can see everything but... I have to agree that it was difficult to see some of the matches due to the number of people around the smaller mats--- just the amount of people around all of the mats were too many.

overall very good. Need to keep the area around the mats clean of kids and fans that are not coaches. Also need to keep all those kids at the end off the mats where they were running all crazy and throwing the tape ball while the championship kids were trying to warm up. saw several kids get run over down there. overall very pleased with this tournament and the competition. good to see some out of staters come and watch the kansas kids kick there butts.

Loved the facility. Other than the refs/coaches blocking the view sometimes - my biggest complaint was why not use the electronic scoreboards? At a minimum, at least use the score flip cards that show the score on boths sides. Unless you sat across the arena from your mat, or kept your eyes peeled on the ref instead of the wrestlers, you didn't know the score. The electronic scoreboards would also have made keeping track of other matches you wanted to watch a little easier.

I believe they are going to do something different with the score charts. The clocks were already taken this year, so they had no choice but to do the flip cards.

Want to keep the floor clean? Quit giving bands to every tom dick and harry that has $20 to spend. Give bands to coaches with cards only. And you will never get refs and coaches to take a knee no matter what you do. Most of them are too busy to listen or care. If you can't see move where you can see then go back to your seat. It wasn't. Like there weren't open seats at this venue.

I don't know where Max went after the meeting, but I waited out in the parking lot for a few minutes, and assumed he must have left and found someone else to jumpstart him.
Steve Foster said that wrestling the HS and 14s on Friday night was an idea he was kicking around.
