I always told myself my child will never wrestle, well I lost that battle and came to love the sport of wrestling more then ever. Wrestling is a very intense sport and some parents do not know how to control themselves at matside. This weekend in JC, I was amazed how a parent was acting on matside while his 6 and under child was wrestling. It was to a point the ref stopped the match and asked the parent to calm down. However nothing else was said. I believe the coach should of stepped up and said grow up and just let your child wrestle. Just a reminder parents, we are here for support and guidence for our children to lead them in the right direction win or lose.

Some parents need to quit trying to live up to their child's dreams.

As a mother of a 6 year I wish I would have said something to that father, my goodness he is only 6.

Back in the day when I was helping coach youth wrestling I witnessed kids being pushed to hard on tounament day and fans at mat side yelling like --well I don't know what but it really turned me off to coaching youth wrestling. I enjoyed places like Salina were coaches were able to coach and parents had to sit in the stands. Must tournaments try their best to keep order but it is very difficult to do so.

I have thought about it often and wondered what could be done to help situations of fans and parents getting carried away and I guess I came up with educating them and talking to them about conduct in parent meetings through the clubs. I know theclub I help never really had parent meetings and we were just happy to have numbers out, but I feel it is important for the kids club to organize a parents meeting or several. In this meeting alot of information should be discussed like behavor at tournaments- the proper way to feed their child and what is expect of them as parents. I think if it was dealt with through education then maybe it might help out.

So I am wondering how many clubs have parent meeting to disucss the sport of wrestling with them?

we don't have parent meetings but they are a wonderful idea. it would also help encourage parents to get more involved with helping at our tournament and helping out in general to promote our small town club.
