OMG, you don't think it is ok to sit on the wood during the finals when the gym is packed??? I was more than a safe distance from the edge of the mat and sitting down.
That is not the safety issue I would be concerned with by having people ring the mat or on the floor. It is a safety issue with people who can't hold their tempers during a contested match or a questionable call. One call goes against their wrestler and some idiot fan/father goes nuts. You've probably seen the type?
