Shane - I had noticed that before, but then had thought if you look at the image on the right you can see how the light reflection on the mat tape really emphasized the seams and I discounted what looked like the mat "dividing" line for a split-mat as just that, a reflection of the tape. Now that you brought it up, I looked at it a second time and you are absolutely correct. There is an "extra" scoring stand that indicates 2 mats, or bascially 2 - 1/2 mats. I had missed that before. You know, it is what it is!

The picture likely is at one of the KSHSAA State Championship Tournaments. The mats are six section mats with the mat tape clearly evident on both the red and blue mats. The tape runs up and down on the red mat and runs the opposite direction on the blue mat. Just the way the mats were placed on the floor. The two coaches chairs visible in the lower left corner on the red mat and lower right corner on the blue mat.
The additional score clock is for the adjoining mat which is not visible.
If this were a kids tournament with the mats divided in half you would see additional red and green starting tape lines in the center of the divided mats.

Made me look.
Not sure where it is. But I did notice a 1 minute and 30 seconds on 2 score clocks and one of the groups appears to be starting down. Not sure if they cut down time in high school on wrestle backs. Also the top number is 1280 - which normally means mat 12 - 80th match. Just my observations.

Not sure if they cut down time in high school on wrestle backs. Championship matches are 2-2-2 and Consolation matches likely are 1-2-2.

The tournament is a high school tournament, I'm not sure it's a Kansas tournament though. That was never the configuration of the mats at the Coliseum. The score tables were always along the outside of the mats and in that picture it appears the scorers are on the inside borders. Also, as someone said, the match numbers indicate it is a larger tournament. Most likely a stock photo for all state activity associations to use.

I thought it was from a state tournament in Kansas as the ref on the blue mat is rather large! Now I am not one to cast stones as I do not wear anything with horizontal stripes! Not as thinning!
The older I get the better I was!

The picture is obviously from the Kids State tournament. The score clocks are close together and the Blue mat is seperated into two halves. Also, the coaches on the lower left hand corner of the red mat are kneeling because there are no chairs for coaches at the Kids State Tourney. You can't see the starting lines on the blue mat because of the KSHSAA Header that is on the page. I have help set up the mats and scorers tables at the Kids State Tournament for the last 10 years and in my opinion that is the State Tournament in Topeka.
Of course I may be completely way off as well. Chris Ball

This doesn't relate to whether the picture is Kids or High school. Do any of you know how many full mats the kids state uses? I haven't been to a Kansas Kids State for several years, since we moved to KC.

I'm guessing that picture is from either the Beast or Ironman tournaments.

I'm guessing the KSHSAA site will crash as a result of too much traffic!

Koranda, This is sad. I've actually wasted the last 10 minutes looking at this picture. Nice points Richard, but I have to disagree with you. The blue mat is actually set up in the opposite direction of the red mat. You can see the starting lines going north and south on the blue mat. You can see the red starting line of the split mat as a tail on the last A in KSHSAA. Look closely, it's on the right. You can also see vertical tape lines on the red mat horizontal tape lines on the blue mat. Just above the H in KSHSAA you can see the starting lines for the blue mat. The white lines are heading north and south and thus would be facing the wrong direction for the scorers table and referee.
I wish I had a "back and to the left" catch phrase like the Zapruder film, but I don't.

This is Kids state...I believe it is from 2009.
The black mat to the far right is from Topeka High, the red mat is from Seaman Middle School, the blue mat is either a Seaman Middle School or Wahburn Rural High School mat, and burgandy mat to the left is a Silver Lake High School Mat.
We set up 10 mats for the state tourney...

I have a question about the Weekly Announcment topic posted December 27th...pretty nasty topic, but what does everyone think of Mr Bowden's thought process?
Mr. Bowden compared the "Body Fluids" in the situation to blood time. Wouldn't you have unlimited time for clean up once the flow has stopped instead of the 5 minutes that Mr. Bowden describes?
