Years ago at the GC Invite (now the Rocky Welton Invite) during the last round on Friday night a wrestler was in a white singlet and had a loose accident. The official chose to handle it like an equipment repair (this was in the days before blood time) and the wrestler was given the time for equipment repair to change his singlet. He immediately left the mat and went to the locker room to change his singlet but could not (or chose not to!) return in the allotted time (3 minutes?) and the match was forfeited. Unfortunately, his coach disagreed over how the incident had been handled and after being told his wrestler was in fact done, he, the coach decided to stage a protest of the call by going to the middle of the mat and sitting down.
The coach's behavior caused all who had not known what had happened to take notice and the story went around the gym like it was on fire-wire. Some of the other wrestlers on the team went out and convinced their coach to get off the mat. He was dinged with an unsportsmanlike penalty; maybe two as I think he had to leave the gym for the rest of the evening.
I felt really, really bad for the kid; he was mortified twice; once by the incident and second by the fact his coach brought so much attention to it. If I remember correctly the kid went home that night and did not return for the Saturday matches.
