This interview is -just one example of the MANY reasons why Coach Denney has made a difference to UNO. You can tell the connection, genuine caring, knowledge of wrestlers backgrounds and involvements. Less than 1 minute into the interview with a 31 win National Qualifier ( one of Kansas own- Abilene native Matt Rein) proudly discusses with Matt, his academics and future off the mat. ..My hats off to you Coach ! ~ ...I PRAY you continue this work at UNO. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORizmc5B0JEThe UNO programs success on the mat speaks for itself, but this is the kind of example that may be able to show the Nebraska Board of Regents why Coach Denney's program and the UNO wrestling community is so very special.- the UNO A.D. Trev Alberts made the statement in closing at the Q & A session alongside chancellor John Christensen that he felt that Omaha community wanted and would support excellence. http://www.omaha.com/article/20110313/NEWS01/703139891If UNO Wrestling is not PROVEN excellence and commitment to it, I dont know what the heck is. Alberts is a stooge. It wasn't costing them anything but he is fronting for somebody and that somebody wanted it gone. They are trying for the Marquette model, no real competition for basketball and entry into the big boy club on the cheap. These schools that go division I and all they really have is basketball give me a rash anyway. They want a split of the big money without spending any to have a real well rounded division I program. He is a media production (Alberts) and totally untrustworthy. They aren't going to listen to anyone, they have an agenda and they are going to play it out. If they had gone division one in all sports it would have cost them a fortune. This way they get to call themselves a big boy for practically nothing. The cheap jerks.

I very highly doubt that ( if this does play out) UNO Division 1 pipe-dream Basketball will ever have near the success of UNO Wrestling. at best maybe they will... have a level of success similar to Creighton and that is hopeful for them. Is it all worth it ? at the risk of losing prospective students in their State who knowingly have chosen a college the level of UNO at its current state ? They are choosing to give up proud traditions in two sports as well as existing rivalries, for the unknown and the trusting of a wet behind the ears A.D.'s projections. Thing is, Alberts isn't likely even going to be there 5 yrs down the line let alone to see his plan fail and his year 2025 projections.

The thing I don't understand is according to the reports UNO is adding back soccer and golf.
While dropping football will result in savings, I would think wrestling vs. soccer or wrestling vs. golf are a "wash" in regards to the AthDept's bottom line.
Must be something else, besides "saving money," going on with this.

They are joining the Summit League which does not support Football or Wrestling. And I believe Hockey is UNO's bread and butter sport, not basketball. I think they've been D1 in Hockey for a while.

Bottom line is the administrators have a lot less work when the only have 7 sports. Plus they get paid the same or more and can increase their own salary, travel budgets, pension plans, car allowances - more golf outing time. STUDENT ATHLETE means nothing anymore. I will put a lot of blame on the legislature, board of regents, the state as a whole for giving these guys to much authority without answering anyone.
Look back at the NCAA when it was formed and read why it was formed. They (the NCAA and College Administration) have gotten so far off track from helping young men and women to get a college degree that it is pathetic.
GET UNO's MINUTES FROM THEIR dirty little private behind closed door meetings. Call for an audit of their computers, cell phones, and lets see how many laws have been followed or not followed when assembling this well thought out plan. I do not want some of their cover their rear post dated lies or misstatements. What a joke - this term misstatement. Find out when they started this process to layout the plan, show you all the documents and research by their experts, find out if their is any data on other schools who have dropped swimming, wrestling golf, gymnastics and so on. Find out who did their research for them and how much they paid them. Do you want a bet they are real close friends with the NCAA?
