Market research suggests the Kansas Expocentre in Topeka should be upgraded with $60 million worth of improvements, including a second show ring, according to a consultant who will report to the Shawnee County Commission.

The Topeka Capital-Journal reports the improvements would help the Expocentre compete with facilities including the planned Kansas Star casino in Mulvane, which would offer an indoor, concrete floor show arena for events like horse shows.

The report comes shortly after the Expocentre lost an Extreme Cowboys Association event to a larger facility in Oklahoma.
