Another GREAT weekend for Kansas Wrestling!
We placed 22 out of 47 Wrestlers!!
Nice job to everyone you made the trip.
Things went a little better this year just a few things that made us Kansans scratch our heads and ask the question WHY!
Two moves were not allowed this weekend and no one saw that coming.
The morning sessions had numbered matches but the afternoon session had no numbers everyone had to be called to the mat. Then in the evening the cadets only were called everyone else had numbers assigned. It was better than the previous two years. I still just don't understand why we get out so late on Saturday, it was much better this year. At our state championships we have more kids and 6 fewer mats and we get out earlier.
The staff was great and the UniDome is still a great building. I almost think it is to big, But I love the floor space we have.
The Kansas kids once again did our state proud. Congrats to our four National Champions!
I hope next year we can get the number of Kansas wrestlers back up.
I hope everyone made it home safe.
Ned

Greg Amos (MO):
2005 USAW Freestyle National Champion 2005 -06 American Crown Winner (Big Horn Nationals, Dixie Nationals, Liberty Nationals champion) 2006 Missouri State Champion
I believe he had only one loss to Brandon Rolnick (NJ) going into this tournament.

I watched the 3rd place match between Napier and Amos. Nice win for Napier. He seemed very relaxed and I believe could have scored more if he had needed to. Amos is VERY tough (just ask Sean) and I was very impressed with Napier, never having seen him wrestle before.

Did anyone hear or notice that they messed up the bracketing on all the 32-man brackets in the whole tournament? After the semi's if you lose you go straight back and cross, but instead they cross bracketed you all the way to the other side! This isn't the way 32-man brackets are done! We brought it up to the head table and so did others and they hadn't even realized nor did hardly anyone else that they did it wrong! They refused to change it because alot of the kids had wrestled already! They admitted they messed it up! This affected the placings and even who became All-Americans! I can't believe they did this at a national tournament and no one is talking about it! Now I've heard they have it back next year!

Just wondering how many of the kids on the list above are from the Wichita area and how many will be in high school next year. It would be fun to get a chance to watch them and see how they do!

3/4 Nelson with a leg trapped and the sit out with a double chicken wing. These are both prohibited in Kids division Greco and Freestyle. At some point in time USA Wrestling has added a paragraph in the Freestyle/Greco USA Rule book to include that these moves be prohibited from Folkstyle as well... Goofy. The match numbering and bullpen format was far more difficult to deal with. My ears still have the echo of the announcer who basically talked non-stop from Satuday afternoon until Sunday at noon

I know the 3/4 used to be against the rules in Kansas Kids but I don't remember it having anything to do with a leg trap. Also, you couldn't set out with a double chicken wing. When we decided to go with high school rules did we just ignore these national rules? Not that that is a bad thing!

Bracketing is usually done this way: first round, no cross bracketing second round, cross bracket 3rd round (quarters in 32 man) no cross bracketing 4th round (semis in 32 man) cross bracket
Alternate the cross bracketing every round
That is why in a 16 man bracket at state, the semis are NOT cross bracketed, because the round before that, the quarters, they DO cross bracket.
Correct me if I am wrong

That's exactly the way you bracket ! Now go take a look at the 32 man schoolboy brackets for example and see that they did them wrong. They cross bracketed in the second round as they should and then they cross bracketed again in the 3rd round (quarters)!
