Has a coach ever won regionals three years in a row without getting regional coach of the year? No offense to Coach Goebel but Tongie finished more than 20 points behind SJA. Thats three years in a row SJA has won regionals but the coaches continue to disrespect a brilliant effort by Mike Medina. He lost 6 seniors and a state qualifier who jumped ship to a public school. He lost seven state championships and a state finalist. This year he took four returning starters and put together a line up with one senior, three juniors, four sophomores, and two freshmen and won regionals for the THIRD YEAR IN A ROW. What does it take? Six of the eleven wrestlers who started today had NEVER set foot on a wrestling mat until they came to Saint James Academy. Many, many of the wrestlers who placed for other teams have spent more time working on SJA mats than most of the SJA wrestlers but the coaches choose to disrespect Coach Medina. Everyone of you who didn't vote for him today should look in the mirror and be ashamed of yourselves! If it is private school bias, grow up! SJA was 30 points out of first this morning and won all but two matches today to qualify 10 kids for state and won the tournament!! Yea, it is about the kids but they would like to see their coach honored. And speaking of the kids... Trent Salsbury beat three of the top 5 ranked kids at 171 today. He was seeded fifth and won it but wasn't OW?!? Why should I be surprised, it takes a miracle and vote by the Pope to get a SJA wrestler named OW at a tournament where the coaches vote.
