You are correct about Ark City's 14 believing that, and I should have prefaced my statement about them not saying it, by saying "they have the confidence to at least think they can".
But again, they only have to place in the top 4 of the regional that they are at. They didn't have to place ttop 4 of every regional in the state.
And if anyone is looking at records of Ark City's kids and comparing their records to other teams' kids, that is a mistake. They wrestle a very tough schedule, so their records are never glittery.
But I think it is offensive to some of the other kids and regionals across the state, to make the statement that Ark City could do it (qualify 14) at ANY regional.
In this day and age, it is admirable that they can even fill all 14 weights with a live body. It would be interesting to see how many schools actually fill all 14 weights. Our team could only fill 13, and that is with some guys wrestling way light to fill a spot.
We do have to do something about the numbers in our sport. Whether it be 7 guys in a 16 man bracket in 4a, or 4 guys in a 8 man bracket in 5 or 6a, we can solve all of the bellyaching about the easy path to state, if we could get more kids out, and fill all of the weights.
I'm always going to BS like this year, and say 4a is tougher, just to get under X's skin. And he's always going to say that whatever class Goddard is in, is toughest, to try to get under my skin. Even though this year is the only year that I'd have to agree with him......
