I know a few coaches have suggested changes be made to the format of many of the old school, straight line bracket, tournaments. This tournament could easily be a one day tournament and everyone would have the opportunity for five matches.

4 Pools of 4 (3 matches)
4 Brackets of 4 (2 matches)

Or if it is to stay a two day then go with four pools of four and two brackets of 8.
4 pools of 4 (3 matches)
2 Brackets of 8 (2 to 4 matches)

If a team is to burn 4 competition points their wrestlers need to get sufficient mat time for the investment. 0-2 doesn't do it, especially if 25% of the wrestlers are sitting in the stands all day on Saturday with nothing to do but txt their friends, play games, or download apps. (Don't kid yourself, they aren't going to watch much wrestling!)

In the present format, many of the best wrestlers will not get more than 3 matches (if byes are randomly distributed in the first round they could get 4).

In today's world where we worry about cost of travel and fans in the stands this tournament should be a one day using the 4 and 4 scramble format. I would think coaches would be almost unanimously in favor of getting more mat time but I was recently told that a different one day tournament, where many matches have to be decided with a coin toss, that coaches voted 14-2 against a scramble format?? Do they want to get home that badly? smile

One last comment, why is it that the NFHS cannot see the data? 195 is FREQUENTLY the lowest attended weight class while 132-152 are bursting, yet they pulled a weight from that range to create 195... Still the dumbest weight change I have ever seen.
