We will be wrestling in Wichita Saturday. Will there be a weight allowance for Sunday in Salina?

Understand no weight allowance but can they change weights at weigh in?

What a great tournament! Great competition. It started on time and ran smoothly throughout the day, in my opinion. Thanks for all you did to make the tournament so successful, James and Dal! See you next year!

Always enjoyed this tournament brings out the best 6yr olds in the state my son took 1st at 6&under. I think its time these 6yr old kids start getting seeded for this tournament or at least the the top 4 or 6 of every weight class an do out with in-between weights an keep it regular. There were some kids in this tournament that where in the championships that should not have been there getting completely dominated by the more superior wrestler . im not talking down on the those kids but lets be honest this is a usa sanctioned event these kids are the future of the sport.

Fabuloso--- I would also like to see the tournament seeded. However, I appreciate the flexibility this tournament provides for the little guys at weigh ins. There is no pressure to make a particular weight. If the tournament were seeded, it would have to be completed in advance of weigh ins. At this tournament (it was my first time there)......kids could adjust their weight to the next weight class if they were "over," which I think is an important benefit at this age. Regarding the in-between weights.....I like them, simply because of the sheer number of kids participating at the tournament. My kid wrestled U6, 47 which had 34 participants. There were about the same number of participants at 45. Combining the two would create a 60 man bracket-----fun for the adults to watch.....but tough on a 4-6 year old. Doing so would force the tournament into a two day affair. There were many tight matches throughout the day and, for the most part, I believe the tournament identified the top 6 in each weight class. There may be a few who received a "bad draw" but I believe this was one of the best tournaments I have ever seen due to the competition, organization, and ability to provide a culminating event for our little guys at the end of the year.

Fabuloso.....I briefly looked at all the championship matches in the tournament to find that most of the matches were fairly close. In fact, I would guess the results of the matches were somewhat close to the high school 4A championships, which I presume are seeded in KS. Looking at the 18 weight classes with my beer math.....5 were round robin brackets. Of the remaining 13: 8 were decided by decision, 4 by major decisions, and 3 pins. I would say there were some pretty good championship matches, based on these numbers?

Scott.....I am sober now. Darn Kansas beer! The numbers are close; however, there were 20 weight classes in the U6 state tournament. 5 of which were round robin brackets. Of the remaining 15........the numbers listed in the earlier post depict the results.
The key point is that there were some quality final matches and the tournament did a pretty good job identifying the top 6 wrestlers in each weight class for the most part. Although seeding the tournament may help eliminate the "for the most part" portion of my last statement, seeding may also have second order effects such as eliminating the flexibility to adjust weight classes at weigh ins.
Thanks for the correction.

Pat....did you read the thread? I don't think anyone is over-reacting to anything. This was a discussion about "to seed or not to seed"......and about how great the tournament is. Or did you simply read the last couple posts and state the obvious "chill out" message?

I disagree with the statement that they need to seed the tournament.....and that there was domination in the championship rounds....that's all. I was using the results from the championship matches to prove my point......jeez!

Read the whole thread. Still, we're talking about very young humans. Most if not all of these young competitors will have NO memory of this event by the time they reach high school. Figuring stats on babies just seems silly to me. Sorry, but that's my 2 cents.

What is really nice.....when we participated in 6u state (held in Ottawa) with 64 man brackets no seeding...the parents and children tended to make life long friends & it's been truly great to see all the boys being successful in the Sport of Wrestling!
Keep in mind they are only 6 years old! It's all about FUN!
In it to win it.
