What I was referring to is the state of the sport. 5A and 6A schools, especially, should be able to fill their spots. Kids should want to be on varsity. Rooms that usually have 40 to 50 wrestlers have 20-25. I am afraid for the future of the sport.


I also think high school sports have evolved and it hurt all sports. So many kids and parents feel that they have to be focused on 1 or 2 sports only.

I know we lost several kids this year that would have made the team better so they could "focus" on their other sport.

i would bet that a large majority of the Bobcat/Newton winners aren't multiple sport athletes. I sure there are some but the point is they have chosen to wrestle year around and I am sure there are coaches at those schools that would love to have them on their team.

No disrespect to those kids, but that I what happens in reverse, which has limited number in lots of different rooms.
