One of my kids got his ear drained early in the week he sat out from practice all week at the doctors request. I was going to allow him to wrestle this weekend despite missing practice all week. It filled up again (surprise surprise) so he went back and got it drained today and the doctor is telling him if he wrestles this weekend, It could fill back up and he will have to treat it differently. I was wondering how much time your kids have missed from practice/competition due to "The Ear"
This is a JV wrestler with one week left in his season. In my experience it will fill back up weather he wrestles or not, so this doctor is basically ending his season with this advice. Thoughts, Stories, Examples PLEASE I need to ease moms mind.

My son got his first "swollen" ear when he was 10. We drained it, mattress stitched it with compresses and he didn't miss a single practice. It appears you have uncovered yet another example of the pussification of America!

What is Mattress stitched? you put the compress in like mini "pillows" and then sew "X"'s throught the pillows and ear. Keeps the ear from filling up again.

My 170 and 195 pounders had this exact procedure done this week. Neither missed a practice.
The fact that girls are forced to wrestle at state in the middle of the week is laughably sexist.

First of all don't take kid to dr for wrestling gods gift of badge of honor unless dr has cauliflower ears. Next follow cokeley s advice. Drain an compress. No need to miss any time on mat. I drained an ear in between matches at a tourney today. Embrace ur kids gift an find comfort in him being known as being in an exclusive club that gets you respect from just a glance. Good luck

I got mine drained about 30 min before my first match in state then again after my second. I don't recall it hurting during my matches.
