Im ushering at my Cousins wedding the same day as regionals (the 18th)...so i was wondering about wat time does the Regional start (Goddard). ANND (this is what i really need to know) about what time would it be RIGHT AFTER if i won my 1st 2 matches- automatically qualifiying me for state- and if i just left after that...forfeiting the championship BUT still qualifiying for state...
The weddings at 2...and i relize it depends on how smoothly the regoinal rins...but im in a REAL pickel...i come form a religous family...and there is not an option of me missing this wedding...PLEASE just give me a rough time frame from earlier years.

Last year the 2nd day for me (starting with semifinals) I took the mat at about 10:00am or so, so you could probably figure about the semi's starting about 2pm between the break between rounds and the top seeds going at it, meaning less falls and more matches going the distance, I don't know whether you'll be able to make it or not. What time does the Regional start? If it's apparent you won't make the finals or qualify in your time frame, you may want to talk to the coach about getting the JV kid some matches so maybe he could get seeded and take your place and wrestle the whole tournament, either way good luck.

I know you're only worried about up to 2 PM, but I figured I'd include the whole day...I'd say you need to visit with your coach as well! ----------- According to the 2005-06 KSHSAA Wrestling Manual the times listed for an 8 team regional (which is what is listed on the KSHSAA web site for Goddard) @ a 6A is as follows:
SESSION #1 (2 mat schedule) 1st Round Championship Quarterfinals 9 AM Championship Semis 12:30 PM Consolation Quarrterfinals 2:15 PM Consolation Semis 4 PM
(3 mat schedule) 1st Round Championship Quarterfinals 10:30 AM Championship Semis 1:00 PM Consolation Quarrterfinals 2:15 PM Consolation Semis 3:30 PM
SESSION #2 Consolation Finals (2 mats) 5:30 PM Championship Finals (1 mat) 6:30 PM
IF, IF, IF the tourney drops to a 7 Team or I miscounted... Rd 1 10 AM Rd 2 12:30 PM Rd 3 2:15 PM Rd 4 3:15 PM Con Finals 5:30 PM Champ Finals 6:30 PM

Not trying to be a smart alleck here, but I know that you might luck out being in a larger class regional. Just make weight and you might only have to wrestle once if at all. I remember a bracket that had only 5 in it and everyone had a bye then the loser of the one semi went to the back to face a bye and voila...made it into top 4!

I would say that if your family isn't committed enough to you or the sport to let you miss your COUSIN'S wedding for Regionals then you should let the kid that is JV behind you wrestle. Religious or not, it is totally asinine to expect a kid to miss Regional wrestling to go to a freaking wedding.

If they were really close then the cousin would understand how important wrestling is to him, if it is.

if you're a lower weight and the wedding is close, you may have a chance to go to both and just forfeit the championship match. talk to your coach and im sure he can set something up for you. i think all these guys are forgetting the best thing about weddings, open bar.
Maybe you're not an ugly human, but a good looking ape.....with exceptional verbal skills.

Personally, I think if you were so close to your cousin they would have looked at YOUR schedule before even asking you to usher. I can't imagine even being in that scenario with your parents. They need to support YOU a little more in that situation. Just my two cents.....

I'm going to play devil's advocate a bit on Sheltin's remarks. If they asked you...you do have the right to say no. That is partially your fault for agreeing on a day you knew regionals would be.

You might get lucky and they call off the wedding between now and then. It's along time till regionals!

By ushering, you mean you'll be responsible for asking, "Are you with the bride or groom?" and generally be required to be at the church at least one half hour before the service begins in order to greet guests as they arrive.
Also, many couples choose to have their pictures taken before the wedding which if this is the case for your cousin, your time will be restricted even further.
An usher is only slightly more important than the groomsmen from a standpoint of what needs to be done at a wedding, and the usher is a more desirable position because after everyone is seated, you can leave the church for a while without anyone even noticing. For that reason, the usher is a desirable position to be in for Catholic weddings. Being an usher is a nice honor, but I'm sure your cousin has another cousin or friend that can fill in your spot very amicably. Trust me on this one. My first born was due the same day as my brother's wedding (in Iowa) in which I was to be the best man. I told him I could not do it and that I would most likely miss his wedding altogether. Good thing too, because in my rank of happiest days of my life, I am confident that my daughter's birth would place way ahead of Mike's wedding had I been there.
In fact, my list of happiest days goes something like this: 1. my wedding day 2. Anna's birth 2. Sophie's birth 2. Maddie's birth 3. walking to the medal stand at the Kansas Coliseum beneath the crowd noise and flashing lights 4. KU beating Nebraska in football . . 25. when my kidney stone finally exited my body . . 789. my cousin Scott's Catholic wedding (I was an usher)
In the grand scheme of things, I would tell my cousin that I am flattered for the invitation, but I am not wanting to affect my focus on a goal that I have been building towards for an entire season. I would however, be happy to sit at the guest book for you during the reception.
Good luck!

Coach DeWitt should get some kind of award (perhaps a Chalupa?) for the best post of the month! Too funny!

May parents told my sister they would miss her wedding if she scheduled it on a football game day this year. I thought that was pretty messed up of them, but it all worked out, cuz she moved it and my dad and I drove 10 hours after a football game on a friday night to make it to Springfeild Missouri for the wedding on a saturday afternoon.

Coach Dewitt,
Love how all the kids get put at #2 (playing it safe is good) I also like how you mention the wedding you attended being Catholic and at 789, I think 789 is the amount of minutes an actual Catholic wedding takes to get to people married!
Power54,
If mom and dad are paying for the wedding, I know a lot of girls that would have to have the wedding mid summer, on a Saturday afternoon so people from out of town can attend and because mommy and daddy are paying the tab.

I think I'll throw in a Chaco Taco with the Chalupa for Coach DeWitt. Great post. Also, when most weddings end in Divorce and most championships last a lifetime, I know which one I would choose.
