FARGO, N.D. – The Cadet Greco-Roman quarterfinals of the U.S. Marine Corps Junior and Cadet Nationals are set for Thursday afternoon at 3 p.m. CT at the Fargodome.
Of those still alive in the championship bracket, 23 are Cadet freestyle finalists, with 10 of those winning Cadet freestyle national titles earlier this week.

Only two wrestlers in the field remain eligible for the Triple Crown, including Alex Facundo of Michigan and Ashton Sharp of Missouri.

Facundo has wrestled at 145 pounds all week. In Greco competition, he has sailed to the quarters, earning a fall in the first round, followed by a pair of tech falls. Heading into his 10th match at the Fargodome, Facundo will take on George Marre of Illinois.

His finals opponent, Michael Weber of Montana is on the other side of the bracket and will face Idaho’s Jakob Murillo.

The other Triple Crown candidate, Ashton, bookended his day with technical falls. His first came over Adam Honis of New York, 10-0. In the round of 16, he overpowered Eli Pannell of Illinois, 16-3. In the 195-pound quarters, Sharp is set to face Avery Jaramillo, who was on the mat for only 1:29 on Wednesday, picking up a 56-second pin and a 10-0 tech fall in 33 seconds.

Minnesota’s Carson Manville, the Outstanding Wrestler of the freestyle tournament, has continued his dominance into the Greco tournament at 132 pounds. He picked up a solid 15-7 decision in the first round, before sticking his second-round opponent in 46 seconds and earning a spot in the quarters with a first-period tech. Manville will see Lucas Desilva of Georgia tomorrow afternoon.

Looking to double up in back-to-back years is Braxton Amos of West Virginia.

During the freestyle tournament, Amos outscored his opponents, 66-4. So far in Greco, Amos has shut out his three opponents, recording a pin and earning two tech falls in 29 seconds each. Wrestling at 220 pounds, Amos will go head-to-head with Jacob Bullock of Illinois.

Four freestyle champions moved up a weight for Greco, including 94-pound champion Jeff Strickenberger of Colorado, who is now at 100 pounds; 100-pound champion Dylan Ragusin of Illinois, who moved to 106 pounds; 126-pound champion Josh Saunders of Missouri, who seeks the title at 132 pounds and 152-pound champion Carter Starocci of Pennsylvania, who is up at 160 pounds.

Other freestyle champions in position to earn a second title this weekend are Fidel Mayora of Illinois at 138 pounds, Devin Winston of Missouri at 195 pounds and Nash Hutmacher of South Dakota at 285 pounds.

2017 U.S. Cadet Greco-Roman World Team member Kase Mauger of Idaho is picking up speed at 94 pounds. Mauger won his first match by pin over Guillermo Juarez of Illinois, before taking out Evan Potter of Oregon in the round of 16, 14-3. He’ll go up against Christian Decatur-Luker of North Carolina in the quarters.

The Cadet Greco quarters are scheduled for 3 p.m. CT on Thursday. Live stream and brackets can be found on Flowrestling.org.
