What needs to be done is an exception where the wrestler can wrestle their 6th match when it is to earn a medal after battling through the back side of a bracket. This would take care of the issue. They made it where forfeits don't count toward that limit, so that is a step forward.

We differ from the NFHS in a few areas and I believe that is why we have not made this a change for Kansas wrestling. However, this would be an acceptable solution. There is no good way to fix a bracket to avoid this. Usually a kid without criteria of some sort to be seeded comes all the way through the back side and runs into this issue and, I agree, it is hard to watch them miss wrestling for their medal.

Otherwise, I do understand the limit, but hate it every time we run into this situation. Yes, our kids can condition and wrestle more live than that in a day, but the rule is set up to protect kids from injury based upon fatigue. In days of solid competition across the board for a regular kid, 5 matches is a lot. I have no doubt all of our kids can make it through that many matches and at least one more--especially for the kid that walks through everyone, but it is not advisable to open that up to 6 or more matches per day per tournament, in my opinion, aside from the aforementioned exception.
