Only 1% of HS wrestlers are part of a DI team. about 1/3 of 1%
get to be on varsity. Should the back up guys not go to that school (if they are there for academic reasons) even if they are practice partners preparing for the lineup in the event they win a wrestle off the team has an injury? Even though girls and women's numbers are lower than boys and men numbers - should they give up on growing the sport? I think not - I am still so happy to see more than 1 - 4 college in KS and equal the opportunities for community colleges. It would be awesome if the 4 year public institutions in KS also stepped up to he plate.
I think wrestling is about ranked 5th or 6th in kids and HS participation in KS but is offered the least university or college chances.
