You have had a tool for 2 yrs. to use to help bring your program up. I take it that you did not realize this. So I will tell you what (who) that was. Cornejo!!!!!!
Cornejo brought both personal and wrestling respect from wrestlers, wrestling families and coaches with him and from what I am hearing you won't have that chance again next year. I have watched Cornejo for years and have seen what he is about, not only as a wrestler but as a young man. You have let an opportunity pass by.
As for Cornejo's wrestling I believe he went
34-3 or close to that, and took 2nd in H.S. State last year. This year he was the City League Leader thoughout the season 11-0 w/11 pins, and before H.S. State he was 33-1. You did not even credit him enough for his Regional Win! Campus Coaches and Baldridge gave Cornejo more positive credit than you did. To bad he got the recognition as the Wichita West kid losing in the finals. Cornejo is not just another W.W. kid!
You need to learn your strengths and weaknesses in your program and when to use your more positive strengths to pull your program up. Unfortunatly for W.W. you are more than likely going to lose this total package kid that other coaches will greatly capitalize on.

Good Luck to you and your program, but most of all Good Luck to Cornejo where ever he receives his education and wrestles!!!!!

This isn't the first I've heard about Cornejo leaving W.W., but I've heard very little on where he might be going. Any ideas?
I would have to say one thing about WW this year, they seemed to be a lot more supportive of eachother than they have in the past, a lot more team unity which is a great thing to see and maybe just the start of improving their situation.

Not sure where he is going but he has a lot of options. Looks can be deceiving as far a team unity. Actions is where it counts! The coach needs to earn the respect of his team! It would help if the coaches sat more with his team than his brothers team!

I hate to say this about Cornejo, but you make it sound like he's got a shopping list of schools that want him to attend. Although that may be true, his options for changing schools are a lot more limited than what you make it sound like. There are a lot of restrictions as far as moving affects changing schools etc... but I'm sure that you are already well aware of this. The team unity looked a lot better this year among the kids, now that you mention it though, I noticed that it was the kids and former wrestlers, not much of coaches support. I have never been the biggest supporter of the Drydens, they seem to take great advantage of the feeder programs that send kids to their schools. I wonder how many of their success stories started their careers in high school vs. how many came to high school already with kids state titles, etc under their belts.

First off why don't you come out and say your from Campus. Everyone knows Campus has been trying to recruit Cornejo for the last two years even though it is against state rules. What type of message are we sending to Mr. Cornejo when we tell him to get out of a bad environment and come to an environment that doesn't follow the rules. As far as Coach Dryden giving Cornejo his props, Dryden cannot control what the Eagle puts in the sports page. I know first hand that Dryden commented to the paper on Cornejo and even left a message with a staff reporter about doing a story on Joseph. With that said if you are wrestling for the glory of getting mentioned in the paper you are wrestling for the wrong reasons. As a matter of fact there would be very few wrestlers period if this were the case. I thought kids wrestled for the joy of competition and the satisfaction of doing your best win or lose. It looks to me as if somebody is trying to avoid another Baldridge vs. Cornejo matchup next year by wanting them on the same team. If thats the case why shouldn't Josh change schools. West finished higher than Campus at state and has all of their big guns returning as well as a pretty good freshmen if the reports I hear are correct. Besides who knows if Chritmann or Langhover will be back next year after all I don't recall seeing to much ink on those guys. Shouldn't Coach Bourn be chastized just as much for this as Coach Dryden

Most good high school programs come from good feeder programs. Just to let you know 2x state champion Ryan Frazier from KMC had never wrestled before coach Tim Dryden got him. State champion Jacob Vogeli and placer Scott Burris also had never wrestled before Tim got them. Know your facts before you run your mouth.

This is a bunch of baloney (I wanted to put something else, but am not sure what the censors would allow). West has always shown team unity, at least as long as I have been around the program. The Drydens are class acts, and any school would be lucky to have one around. Cornejo is a great wrestler and a great kid, but he's not the second coming of Jesus. And at no time have I ever seen Cornejo mistreated by anyone in the wrestling room. I think someone needs to get off the haterism train.

Sweatysocks, I wasn't running my mouth, I was asking a question. Frazier was an athlete plain and simple. He's a prime example of a quick big man can go the distance, just teach him a good outside single, and to get off the bottom. Same thing with Vogeli (by the way do you know what he is planning on doing in college? I'd be very interested to see if he was thinking about wrestling) I'm not taking any credit from any of those kids, they deserve everything that they received. The reason that I asked that question is because the names that stand out from Kapaun and West are names that are VERY familiar to those in the kids programs (Knox, Taylor, Chadwick, Kline, Hoover, Jonas, Cornejo, Deshazer, Tucker, O'Brian, Jiminez). You don't hear of too many kids from those two programs that came in without a clue. I know you have mentioned a few here and I'm sure that there are others that we could go on all day about. No offense meant, like I said, just a question. Most good high school programs come from good feeder programs, most GREAT high school programs take good feeder kids and turn them into even better wrestlers, fine tune, add something here and take something out there.

Pull my finger are you nuts. What are the Drydens supposed to do, tell any kid that comes out with kids experience to get lost. As for what have they done with kids coming out only in high school here it is. Coach Dryden at KMC in his fifth year has the following.
Ryan Frazier 2x state champ. Dryden only had him for those two years.
Jacob Voegeli state champ. Came out as a sophomore and wrestled j.v.
Aaron Chavez 3rd place at state. Another kid who came out as a sophomre.
Scott Burrus 6th at state this year. This is only his second year of wrestling.
Yes it is true Dryden has had the benefit of getting good kids from the Wichita Wrestling Club. Kids like Hoover and Klein as well as the Jonas clan and Hernandez. Maybe you should know that Dryden helped these wrestlers as kids while coaching at W.W.C. As a matter of fact Hoover is related to Dryden and grew up with the Drydens coaching him. I'm sure that helped when he got to high school. I've never heard the Drydens claim to be the greatest coaches out there. They simply try to help their wrestlers do the best that they can. At KMC in five years Dryden has the following: 11-state champions, 2-state runner ups, 1-3rd,1-4th,1-5th and 1-6th. Thats not to bad regardless of where the kids came from.
At West Dryden in only his first year had the privilage of coaching a state champ a state runner-up and a fourth place finisher. Coach Dryden as an assistant to Coach Watkins had many good kids with kids experience. They also helped Tony Trevino win a state title no previous experience. Todd Sanchez 3rd place, Earl Henry 2nd place also had no kids experience prior to West. All programs regardless of sport be it wrestling, football, basketball or baseball benefit from getting kids with youth experience. Most coaches appreciate kids coming into the high school program with experience.

Apparently you missed what I was trying to say. No I don't think they should ask that those kids coming into high school with previous wrestling experience to please leave the room as this is a sport only for those with no experience at all. And I know just as well as the Dryden's do that they are not the best around, better than most I would also have to agree with that. I am just saying that they are more than lucky with the kids programs associated with those schools. I'm also not sure how much they are involved with the kids programs, so maybe they should be credited with building good feeder programs to begin with.

NO I AM NOT FROM CAMPUS. NORTHWEST FAN!!!!!!!!!!
ALTHOUGH CORNEJO HAS A LOT OF WRESTLING FAMILY IN HAYSVILLE. THE COACHES HAVE NEVER TRIED TO GET HIM THERE. SO WHAT RULES DOES CAMPUS NOT FOLLOW?!
COMPETITION WITH CORNEJO AND BALDRIDGE WILL ALWAYS BE THERE! WEST'S DRYDEN DID NOT GET THE JOB DONE FOR CORNEJO, BUT DID FOR DESHAZER AND HIS DAD! MY THOUGHT'S WERE THAT W.W. DRYDEN SHOULD HAVE SPREAD THE CREDIT LIKE KMC DRYDEN DID FOR HIS TEAM! YES!!!!!!!! BOURN SHOULD HAVE DONE THE SAME!

K-DOGG
I KNOW CORNEJO IS NO ANGEL, BUT HE DID HAVE A GREAT SEASON! I'M NOT ON A HATE TRAIN.
WHY WOULD YOU GO THERE!!!!

hemmert, I know Cornejo personally. He is a great wrestler, and did have a great season. Props to him. It just seems you're hatin on Dryden, who is a great coach and person. There is no reason to think Dryden didn't do everything in his power to make Cornejo a winner. After all, Baldrige is the one who beat Knox in the finals last year. Coaching can only take you so far. Cornejo and Baldrige went back and forth over the season, and Baldrige came out on top in the one that matters. Props to Baldrige. To blame coaching in this case is absurd. Dryden was a first year head coach, and wasn't handed a program that was in it's best situation. It was a difficult year, having to deal with a lot of crap that most schools don't have to deal with, coming from administration, fans, and others. I just want Dryden to be given his props.

Well considering its his first year at Northwest I can't see how that equates into anything. If you want to look at how Wichita South has done when the NW coach was there you wouldn't have said that.

I dont think that anyone from campus is trying to prevent another Baldridge vs. Cornejo matchup at all how could you say that the people from haysville that want cornejo to come to CHS are his friends from there i am one of them and he wrestled and played football in haysville most of his life (before high school)...they just want him to be part of our team again...plus having joe would help him as much as anything wrestling baldridge everyday will help him and baldridge next year...

What that I have never thought too highly of them? Well, that may have something to do with Jim turning his back on a friend he has known and wrestled with his entire lifetime. So don't tell me what I am saying equates to nothing.

Get it straight.

ONCE AGAIN I FEEL THE NEED TO SET THE MATTER STRAIGHT. WHY IS IT PEOPLE THINK THEY KNOW MORE ABOUT ME THAN THOSE WHO I TRUELY AM CLOSE WITH. I HAVE NO CLUE WHO MATT SMITH IS NOR DO I CARE. HE HOWEVER KNOWS EVERYTHING ABOUT ME, AT LEAST HE THINKS HE DOES. MAYBE A SECRET ADMIRER OR POSSIBLY A STALKER ONLY HE KNOWS. I CAN ASSURE YOU THAT I HAVE NEVER TURNED MY BACK ON FRIENDS THAT I GREW UP WRESTLING WITH. WHY DONT YOU SAY WHO IT SUPPOSEDLY WAS THAT I WRONGED INSTEAD OF JUST MAKING A GENERIC STATEMENT. I WILL TELL YOU AND ANYONE ELSE THAT MAKES THAT CLAIM THAT "THAT IS A BOLD FACED LIE!!!" I ALSO DIDN'T KNOW THAT YOU, MATT SMITH, WERE THE EXPERT IN WHO WAS AND WAS NOT A GOOD COACH. I WOULD BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO PICK UP YOUR BOOK ABOUT SUCCESSFUL COACHING. WHERE CAN I FIND ONE? WHEN I ACCEPTED THE WEST HIGH JOB I WAS TOLD BY MANY PEOPLE THAT I SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR NEGATIVE COMMENTS ABOUT ME BECAUSE ALOT OF PEOPLE DO NOT LIKE WEST. FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT WISH TO CONTINUE THE BASHING, BE MAN OR WOMAN ENOUGH TO PUT YOUR REAL NAME. TO THOSE OF YOU WHO OFFER SUPPORT THROUGH THIS FORUM AND THOSE OF YOU THAT SPOKE ENCOURAGING WORDS TO ME THROUGHOUT THE SEASON...THANK YOU.

TO HEMMERT OR WHATEVER YOUR REAL NAME IS:
NO ONE WAS MORE DISAPPOINTED THAT JOE DID NOT WIN A STATE THAN JOE WAS. I WAS PROBABLY A CLOSE SECOND. AND YES I DO KNOW HOW FORTUNATE WEST IS TO HAVE SOMEONE OF HIS CHARACTER IN THE WRESTLING PROGRAM. AS TO WHAT I HAVE OR HAVE NOT DONE FOR JOE, MAYBE YOU SHOULD CHECK WITH HIS PARENTS ABOUT THE THINGS I DID FOR HIM OVER THE SUMMER WITH REGARDS TO LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATIONS I WROTE FOR HIM. I DID THIS EVEN THOUGH THE CORNEJO FAMILY HAD TOLD ME THAT THEY WERE NOT SURE WHERE JOE WOULD BE GOING TO SCHOOL. I ALSO COMPILED ALL OF HIS STATISTICS FROM THE PREVIOUS YEAR AT THEIR BEQUEST EVEN THOUGH I HAD NOT BEEN THE HEAD COACH THAT YEAR NOR DID I HAVE THE INFORMATION IN HAND. I DID THESE THINGS FOR THE CORNEJO FAMILY AND FOR JOE BECAUSE I DO KNOW WHAT KIND OF PERSON JOE IS. I DID NOT DO THEM SO THAT I COULD GET SOMETHING IN RETURN. IF YOU CHECK WITH THE FAMILY I AM SURE THEY WILL TELL YOU I DID NOTHING TO TRY AND PERSUADE JOE TO COME TO WEST. I AM CONTINUALLY GRATEFUL THAT HE DID AND HOPE THAT HE WILL RETURN NEXT YEAR. IN CLOSING I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THAT I WOULD NEVER HAVE MADE JOSEPH A CAPTAIN (WHEN HE WAS ONLY A SOPHOMORE) UNLESS I HAD THE HIGHEST OPINION OF HIM, NOT AS A WRESTLER, BUT AS A PERSON OF GREAT CHARCATER.

Actually, JIM I never said anything about your coaching abilities so shut up about that. And I was mistaken I meant your brother Tim. I do however think you are doing a good job at West High but that doesn't mean I like you. Oh and don't flatter yourself, nobody in their right mind would want to stalk you.
