ALRIGHT WRESTING FANS AND COACHES AND WHOM EVER. KANSAS NEEDS A "BEAST" TOUR. WE COULD HOLD THIS IN WICHITA. WICHITA HAS THE CENTURY TWO BUILDING, WSU KOCK AREANA AND THE BIG THING OUT NORTH OF TOWN. THE BEAST OF THE EAST IS 64 MAN BRACKET WITH 81(this year) TEAMS. ITS RAN OFF IN TWO DAYS WITH NO-ONE WRESTLING MORE THAN 5 MATCHES. WE COULD HAVE TEAMS FROM OK, TX, MO NE, CO AND WHO EVER WANTS TO COME. THE BEAST HAD SOMETHING LIKE 7 OR 8 DIFFERENT STATES. WE COULD CAN IT THE KANSAS KILLER. WHAT DO YOU IN THE KANSAS WRESTLING WORLD THINK?

Some might not go for the "killer" name, but if you have the Beast of the East you must have the Best of the Midwest. I like the idea but would like to see it in Salina at the Expocenter for the reason you have 2 major interstates running right on the edge of it. Oklahoma City to Salina might run you tops 4 hours, and would't put some of the other states much further away.

Perhaps it could be held at at the colinauseum in Wichita.. we could call it the cowpasture classic or the high plains rendevous... bring in some buffalo and coyotes , maybe a mountain lion for color exhibition purposes.. we could borrow them from the Topeka Zoo if there are any animals left there that haven't died of malnutrition.

isnt it called the bycentinial center in salina?...and the expocenter in topeka?.. yea, I just had a brain fart last night. we could borrow them from the Topeka Zoo if there are any animals left there that haven't died of malnutrition. If you want to get some sick looking animals get ones from either the Clay Center Zoo or Manhattan Zoo.

I think if you really wanted to make a tournament like this a national success you would have to have it in Topeka, Wichita, or the Kansas City metro area. Only these cities have the combination of lodging, population, and a large media outlet to promote and support a tournament of the magnitude.
If you were to bring in 81 teams, assuming each team brings 16 people (wrestlers, coaches, managers) that would be almost 1300 participating attendants alone. That does not including parents, fans, and media from other areas... all of which would need accommodations. Does Salina have hotel space for 2000+ people?
Secondly, towns like Wichita, Topeka, and the KC area have much larger wrestling populations that could help to organize and run the tournament. I am sure Salina has its share of willing and able wrestling volunteers, but to make sure the tournament runs smoothly it would be much better to have it in an area where people would be in abundance.
Thirdly, a larger area would be more attractive to the media and to teams traveling in from out of state. Although Salina is a very nice town, there would be little to do during breaks in the action. KC, Wichita, and to a lesser extent Topeka provide a much more diverse array of entertainment options for visitors. Let's face it, even if the wrestling's great, if people are bored they're probably not going to want to come back.
In all likelihood, this even will never happen, but if it ever does get organized I’ll put in a good word here in Indiana with the schools I’m helping out.
Oh, and here's an idea for the name:
Mid-west Mauler
Wake Up the Echoes...
