The early Pratt tourney is in to can, I I am only giving partial results as I didn't take notes, Ulysses won handily , about 40 points margin over Pratt, who had about 30 pts. margin over Wellington. Ulysses had several wrestlers that looked impressive, Joey ortiz, AJ Heckel,
Ryan Seger, and Tony lewis, Lewis with a championship fast pin of 27 seconds. Pratt had 4 in the Finals, all 4 champions, Asher Riner (freshman) beating Ross Ballard in one of the closest finals matches of the night, Daniel Prater beating Grant Stafford of Hugoton by 8 or thereabouts, Lucas Kramer beating A Wichita Independant wrestler in another close match, and 171 pounder Justin Veeder defeating his oponent in the finals for first. Other Pratt guys in third were Jake Dozier at 119, AAron Blasi at 125, and Denis Fairleigh at 160. Cole Kreutzer at 145 was fourth. Some very impressive champions were Spencer Burns and Corey Nightengale from Cimmaron/South Gray at 145 and 160, and there were several Wellington wrestlers that were in the top three as well, I am not familiar with those young men so I don't know their names, but they appeared to be respectable. its still early season, but I would say that the guys that I saw tonight here at Pratt that were REALLY good were: Ortiz, heckel, and Lewis from Ulysses, Prater and Kramer from Pratt, and Burns from Cimmaron. there were champions in every weight and I don't intend to slight the others, those last guys mentioned seemed to be the best to me.

Dear Mike:

Thank you for the update! I do not recall South Gray having a wrestling program. Are they a new program? I know several years ago due to a school consolidation South Gray was formed and they have often been successful in eight (8) man football.

Wellington has a talented freshman at 103 lbs. by the name of Alex Meisch. Did he make the finals against Asher.

Finally, congratulations to you son!

Thank you!

Richard: Alex Meisch was the top seed at 112, I believe he made the final but am not sure, Medina from Ulysses was in the top side as well and there was a LOT of orange around, so can't say. Wichita Independant had some good kids, Pat mosely made the final at 103 but I didn't catch the winner there, Pratt's Benton Stull was 4th. I believe Levi Eddy won 119 against Lakin's DJ Smith. Cimmaron has had a program for awhile, it is small in number but has a few guys that wrestled Kids for about ever and that is what is their anchor at this point.

Just a few clarifications, while there was quite a deficit between Pratt and the third place team, that team was not Wellington. Cimarron-South Gray managed to pass them up by six points to take third. South Gray has had a program since '92 and as far as I know has been consolidated in the sport w/ Cimarron the whole time. Also its Courtney Nightengale. No worries, common mistake.
