I don't have everything cataloged or bookmarked as our resident researcher does, but I'd like to point out that, "All of the statement from Koranda is incorrect!", is incorrect itself...

"If no scoring occurs in the 30-second tiebreaker, the offensive wrestler will be declared the winner. One match point will be added to the offensive wrestler's score to determine the final match score." (No mention of which code to use, TB vs. RO...)
#4 - NFHS Rule Book
Page 50:
BOTH RO - Ride-out and TB - Tiebreaker are listed (figured I'd point that one out...)

(6th one down) "Add Match-Point for Tiebreaker Winner (6-7-1): If no scoring occurs during the tiebreaker period, the offensive wrestler will be declared the winner and one match point will be added to the offensive wrestler's score. THE ADDING OF A MATCH POINT FOR THE "RIDE-OUT" CLEARLY INDICATES WHO WON THE BOUT. This assists with record keeping and reduces the possibility of indicating or advancing an incorrect competitor."

Without a clear understanding of what to do in the situation of being at the end of a tiebreaker and having a wrestler who rode-out their opponent and not knowing which code to use; Id have to make a decision using any pertinent information I might have acquired at any meetings or clinics.

#7 KWOA Clinic Notes for KSHSAA Exec. Dir. Rick Bowdens Rule Meeting. (November 6, 2004. El Dorado VFW Hall. 1:00 pm)
(Paraphrased, but any attendee will attest this is basically what was said)
There new symbols for us this yearRO is for Ride-out, which I hate that term!!! I dont like it because we tell the wrestlers not to stall, but then we use the term Ride-out we they win in OT. You can use RO or TB, but just make sure you add one point to the winners score and use one of these to make it clear who won.
Id like to take this opportunity to thank you for keeping me one my toes. Normally after the seasons concluded, I get no opportunities to challenge myself to continue studying the rules. Hopefully Ive presented my incorrect case clearly enough to show you that I do in fact have a basic knowledge of this sport and my job as a referee. Anyone who would like to come join the ranks of KSHSAA Officials can do so at any time! Just log on to
