Just got done reading the Newton TOC thread and felt Halstead needed some love...
24 teams coming! Who are the favorites? Any sleepers? What'll be the outcome?

Douglass is going to halstead. One of the only 4a schools it seems like. I wish we could wrap it up quick so we could watch Newton's finals.....

My guess is the top 4 will be Lincoln, Garden Plain, Hillsboro, and probably Douglas. I'm not sure what the order they'll be in but that's my guess.

It looks like there should be some pretty good matchups in some of the weight classes. Here goes:
103 - Zoglman-Garden Plain 112 - Harshman-Chase County 119 - Knapp-Lincoln 125 - Fox-Douglas 130 - Eshelman-Stafford 135 - Thibault-Halstead 140 - Cress-Hillsboro 145 - Patterson-Garden Plain 152 - Bina-Hillsboro 160 - Austin-Remington 171 - Dukes-Douglas or Spencer-Hesston (Winner may get OW Award) 189 - Scheer-Garden Plain 215 - Foster-Halstead 275 - Shaw-Hillsboro

This was a great tournament! Using the predictions to jog my memory (two day tournaments can be exhausting for us moms! *L*) I don't know all the results, but Hazard (Lyons) beat Patterson for the 145 championship, which earned him OW. Thibault broke his arm during the semi-finals. Douglas won the tournament. Knapp won 119. Austin won 160 over Ryan (Lincoln). Dukes got the 171 win. Foster won 215. I didn't keep track of many finals this weekend, but there were several great matches.

Teddy Ballgame was pretty close with his final four predictions. The top four teams were Douglas, Garden Plain, Lyons, and Hillsboro. Only had one team wrong. I'm not sure, the second and third place teams may be switched around. Douglas won the tournament and Hillsboro finished fourth.
Individual champions that I have knowledge of are: 125:James Fox, Douglas 130:Darrell Melcher, Herington or Adam Lackey, Smokey Valley 152:Andrew Bina, Hillsboro

So who won at 130? Darrell Melcher or Adam Lackey. Also, wasn't Melcher and Lackey at 135?

What was the score between Melcher and Lackey? And also, can someone please tell me if Lackey is a Freshman or Sophomore. I say he is a freshman, my husband says sophomore (trying to settle a bet).

Lackey is a sophomore..and to add to mom160's comment about it being an exciting tournament, about 3 or 4 guys got arrested in the cafeteria friday night for being drunk, one guy tried to fight a cop..it looked like something off of COPS..it was great!

WOW - I completely missed the excitement with the cops! We did wonder why the EMT's took the stretcher over to the corner of the gym - they were there for quite a long time.
The newly remodeled restrooms were a definate improvement and the announcer was a hoot!

I apologize but 3 of the above results are incorrect. The scores are correct but I had the wrong wrestler winning. I guess it's what I get for talking on the phone & typing @ the same time.
130 Culbertson-Fredonia 8-3 over Eshleman-Staff.
140 Daerr-GP 8-6 (OT) over Cress-Hillsboro
152 Bina-Hillsboro 4-0 over Kroetsch-Lyons

Dang....I hate to loose bets (especially to my husband). I was really sure that Lackey was an 8th grader last year when we met up with him at McPherson during Kids Federation.

TeddyBallgame - did you happen to keep the 5th place standings? There was a request under the "Send Duel/Tournament" thread. I only knew the two for our wrestlers.

Sorry I didn't keep 5th place winners. By the way, the announcer was a hoot! His name is Charlie (can't remember his last name). I personally thought the talent @ this year's tournament was way up from the last several. It seemed like there were a lot fewer pins, even in the 1st round. I actually didn't realize Lyons was coming this year or would have predicted them in my top teams. I also thought Hazard of Lyons fully deserved the OW award. He also had to beat Utech (Herington) in the semi's which was also a tough match. I figured they might give it to Foster since he pinned all 4 opponents but I'm glad they realized how tough the 145 bracket was & gave it to Hazard.

Utech is fun to watch - rumor has it he had a broken hand so hasn't been wrestling very long this season. We had thought Foster might get the OW award as well, but felt Hazard definately deserved it since everyone assumed Patterson had it won. Great match! The 160 bracket was tougher than I thought it would be as well.

103:5th-James Medlin, Hesston/6th-Ryan Hahn, Southeast of Saline 112:5th-Seth Eaton, Garden Plain/6th-Justin Simon, Haven 119:5th-Jeremy Vancil, Bluestem/6th-Ethan Wessel, Chase County 125:5th-Kyle Maybee, Herington/6th-Curtis Anderson, Flinthills 130:5th-Jonathan Booe, Cherryvale/6th-Mick Solliday-Flinthills 135:5th-Tyler Jones, Hillsboro/6th-Luke Thibault, Halstead 140:5th-Jose Andrade, Halstead/6th-Ben Ruth, Circle 145:5th-John Barr, Marion/6th-Matt Brown, Hillsboro 152:5th-Michael Frank, Cherryvale/6th-Nash Volker, Stafford 160:5th-Sam Patton, Circle/6th-Eric Toler, Halstead 171:5th-Chris Harris, Chase County/6th-Kyle Spencer, Hesston 189:5th-Davis Verrette, Lyons/6th-Adam Depler, Marion 215:5th-Todd Martin, Douglas/6th-Josh Atchison, Chase County 275:5th-Richard Burton, Circle/6th-Zack Puetz, Garden Plain
I, also, apologize for my mistake earlier. I know that Darrell Melcher and Adam Lackey are both at 135, but my mind was thinking about other things while my hands were typing. Sorry!

I don't even know why halstead has a thread about it being tough. From looking at the results, it was nothing special. No offense to Douglass, cuz I know James Fox and they're cool kids, but if they take first at a tournament, then that doesn't really say much.

LoveToWrestle: Can you point out exactly where the discussion about Halstead being tough is? I cannot seem to find it. This discussion has been solely about it being a great tournament. There were some great matches, it was well run, and was an enjoyable two days. Since you seem to think it wasn't tough: There was some tough competitions, but the championship matches were spread out amongst the teams. Just because you don't think the winning "team" was tough enough, that doesn't diminish the overall tournament.
