The only ranking that means anything is the one at the end of the season. Seeding a state tournament would be difficult. The most equitable way is the way that it is done now. Look at some of the weight classes. 4A at 112 for example. How tough do you think that regional was? 1-2-3 from the same region, yet it worked out like it was supposed to, probably. At the state tournament, you MUST look past records, as the only true test is head to head. Yet, how many wrestlers have gone head to head against most of the field? Very few. To be a champion, you have to beat everyone. There has been some talk of challenges, such as a #3 finisher challenging a runner up that have not yet met. Personally, I am very much against that as the #3 kid would have a tremendous emotional advantage over a kid that has just lost a state championship match. Everybody, from EVERY region, claims that theirs is the strongest. The state tournemant clears up everything. Now, heres a question....would there be different results if you seeded it exactly the same and wrestled again next weekend? Absolutely!
