Not going to take a ton of space here, but what a weekend for the Kansas Wizzers of Oz. We had a great weekend and for those not going, you missed out on an incredible weekend of wrestling. Parents who were a huge help were the The Downs, Mr. Fausset, Mr. Detmer, and of course my wife. Without these folks helping out we couldn’t have had the weekend we had.
Left Derby yesterday around 12:30, arrived in Tulsa at 4:30 after taking a brief stop over at my house in Oologah. Made weigh in with no problems, and ate at Wendy’s across the street. Regarding the facility, it was the nicest High School Facility I have ever been in, remarkable. Wrestling started promptly at 7:00 PM and we were done with our last match at 11:30 PM. We ended up with 15 wrestlers in 2 Divisions placing 12 of them with 7 firsts place. Not bad if you ask me. Got to Skiatook where we had a great family host us in a mountain top 4,000+ square foot house. We got to bed around 1:00 AM, woke up at 6:00 AM and went to leave, had a flat tire, and had one car where the starter was bad. The family we stayed with let us use one of their cars to get everyone to weigh in on time. This family was unreal, they had breakfast for everyone, plus a cooler full of Gatorade for everyone.
We arrived at Broken Aarow at 7:55 AM, weighed in, again no trouble, and got ready to wrestle at 9:00 AM. This tournament featured High School wrestling teams from all over Texas, Missouri, and of course Oklahoma including, Broken Arrow, Catoosa, Union, Stillwell, Jenks and I could go on and on. These teams were all there as teams and coached by their high school coaches. I won’t go into a ton of detail other than to say, that by the end of the tournament a number of coaches were commenting on the quality of our Kansas team. This tournament was done by 4:30 PM, take photo’s load up and head out. Some wrestlers got to go 2 divisions at each tournament, essentially 2 tournaments because of their age, while others only got to go 1 division at each tournament. I think everyone was ready to take the Kansas Wizzers of Oz team out again. It was great knowing that Oklahoma wrestlers and coaches were talking about how good Kansas wrestling was by the end of each tournament. Each wrestler and their record in less than a 24 hour period was like this.
Tyler Downs: 11–1, 11 pins, 1st–3X, 2nd–1X
