I know that he's had some losses this year, but am I honestly the only person that would put BJ Essex from Emp. over Kyle Lewis from Ark.City? From what I know all his defeats have been at the hands of some dam good ranked wrestlers. And even then it wasn't like he got devastated; they were mostly close matches.

I like both Lewis and McCreary over Essex. Just my opinion. Maybe BJ will prove me wrong this weekend.

Bishop Carroll beat Clay Center in dual format, not tournament format. Clay Center is much better in tournaments. It will be an interesting team race between Clay Center, Bishop Carroll, Manhattan, Salina South, and Hutch.

clay center was also without two state placers when they faced bishop carrol in a dual.

If you're putting clay center in the mix, you gotta look at Norton, who barely lost to them at the cc tournament. Johnson will be at 145, not 140. Also, look for Sprigg to make some noise at 160, Annon at 125, and Madden at 103.

We all know seeds are like rankings, they don't mean anything until you prove it on the mat, but for all those interested parties the Newton seeding meeting was last night.
If all seeds were to hold, the team standings would be: 1. Manhatten - 55 pts 2. Ark City - 42 pts 3. Clay Center - 39 pts 4 Bishop Carroll - 33 pts Hutchinson - 33 pts Salina South - 33 pts 7. Goodland - 31 pts Emporia - 31 pts 9. Norton - 28 pts 10. Wichta South - 26 pts (This is based on 8 points for 1st seed, 7 points for 2nd, etc.)
Also if seeds were to hold, finals would be: 103 - Crumblis (AC) over Bingham (Man) 112 - Harding (Win) over Wright (OE) 119 - Garcia (Hut) over Bohning (Mz) 125 - Herrera (Emp) over Annon (Nor) 130 - Lewis (AC) over McCreary (Win) 135 - Zouzas (SS) over Pruser (CC) 140 - Grater (CC) over Manion (Hts) 145 - Smith (DC) over Johnson (Nor) 152 - Johnson (Man) over Smith (Aug) 160 - Bunker (Man) over Brack (Goodland) 171 - Sponsel (BC) over Wintz (Der) 189 - Richardson (AC) over Perry (Hutch) 215 - Hemmerling (Hutch) over Bedore (Goodland) 275 - Mock (WS) over Sprigg (Norton)
Again, before anyone attacks me: These are not my predictions, just what the seeds are. It will be interesting to see how accurate the seeds were.

Just a thought. How did you rank Crumbliss over Bingham, Madden, Sayers, and Metzler. They are all ranked 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. Whereas Crumbliss is ranked 4th. Unless you know how to compare the different classes. I dont think these are very acurate.

I was not a part of the seeding meeting but from what I know: In the case of Crumbliss, he beat Deshazer from Wichita West and Bingham and Sayers lost to Deshazer at Salina South last week. As for the rest of the seedings, they are based on criteria: highest state medalist, highest returning newton placer, record, ect. So for example Hill (hts) at 135 and Rhodes (WE)160 were dropped lower because they were not state medalists last year (regardless of the reason). Likewise Norton and Goodland wrestlers, along with people like Sponsel (189) from BC, who did not wrestle in Newton last year had to be leaps and bounds better to overcome that lack of criteria. In the absense of head to head, they use criteria. As we all know just because one guy got 4th at state at one wieght in 6A, and the other guy got 5th in state in 4A doesn't make the first guy better, but in the absence of anyother criteria that is the deciding factor. I advocate in a tough tournament like newton, just to do a blind draw because the seedings are always so hard. The only difference is that you would have to allow 3rd to wrestle 2nd if they had not already met. But either way the best will rise to the top.

and the sad thing is that they really push the "staying off the floor" thing, but there is nowhere else for people to be because the bleachers are always full.
