Sweazy,

Do not want to belabor the point as there is widespread agreement that the Western 321A Regional is the most rigorous regional tournament this year. However, this ranking thing still bothers me.

Bigkneepads made the statement that the number of ranked wrestlers participating in the Norton Regional would be higher except for the fact that no more than four wrestlers per regional are being ranked in 321A.

You reply that the "real rankings" do not bear this out. However, the 321A ranker himself , Coach LaMar, recently stated on this forum that he was ranking only those wrestlers he believed had a chance to qualify for the state tournament, as it made no sense to rank wrestlers who have less of a chance to wrestle in the state tournament. Therefore, no more than four wrestlers per weight class from any one regional would be ranked in the top ten.

The point to this diatribe is that bkp is correct--there would be more than 41 ranked wrestlers (as of 02-08-04) at Norton next weekend if more than four per regional were ranked in the top ten.

Coach LaMar's efforts and time in compiling the rankings are greatly appreciated and it is not my intent to be critical of him--but I do not agree with his philosophy.
