Birddog, you have a point, too. I believe most kids from small schools are still three or more sport athletes. They participate in all sports. I think you will find in bigger schools there are more kids that specialize in a particular sport. Not all, some kids are just naturally gifted athletes in any sport they compete in, but not most athletes.

Still more fuel for the argument: We have a wrestler who finished the year at .500 and was eliminated at the P-burg regional. Five of his wins this year were over wrestlers from 6A & 5A. Four of his wins were over wrestlers who qualifed for the 4A & 5A state tournaments last weekend. Three of his wins were by fall over two 5A opponents who qualifed for state from two different 5A regionals (one at Hays & one at Salina). The third win was a 7-2 decision over a 4A wrestler who qualifed out of Goodland. Further, of his wins this season only three were by forfeit--which flies in the face of the argument advanced above that small school wrestlers "pad" their records with forfeits.

I've bit my tongue for a while on this, but feel the need to inpt my two cents on a falacy that many prior posts have discussed.

The comment that 321a records are padded is bogus. Maybe eastern Kansas schools only wrestle schools in their classification, but out west that is not the case.

Take Norton, for example. The competed in the Newton Tournament - did they only wrestle in the 321a division there? They also see Clay Center, Concordia, Colby...... throughout the year.

Or Hoxie - they have wrestled & beaten Garden City, Liberal, Kapaun, Dodge City, Manhattan, Clay Center, Concordia...... in head-to-head competition this year. Apparently these teams don't have enough good wrestlers in the line-up to allow Hoxie's win to be counted?

Add to that the fact that the 321a teams in the MCL and NWKL that they do wrestle against are historically among the state's upper tier.

Sorry folks, but you probably ought to find a new arguement because this one is pretty weak.

We all know Hoxie reigns supreme this year. No one is trying to take away any 321a accomplishments.

But I'm with Westphal in that only 16/40,000 students make 6a state, whereas 16/12,000 make 321a state. That's totally bogus. Maybe EVERYONE from 5a/6a should qualify, and eight from 321a.

It's sarcasm. This argument is worthless, and it changes every year. So I'll just get back to making hilarious jokes.

And LancerM- sorry to disappoint you, but I won't be at state. Prant Garker didn't qualify.

And Boach Clack- my shoes aren't violet. Jerk. (And at least they aren't teal and pink.)

I don't think anyone that is in their right mind is calling 321A weak. Everybody that has any historical knowledge of this state and wrestling knows how tough the 321A kids are and particularly those two leagues. I think most of the bashing comes from that area though and really tries to put down the big school kids and the east in particular as being weak or somehow not worthy of state competition and that is just not true. I really think this thread got started with that in mind, not the other way around.
