I think it would be great but don't just test the athletes. It would get mighty complicated. I wonder if school boards can make thier own policies regarding this and if any Kansas school has such a policy?

I think its a great idea, and while we're at it, we can ask them what television shows their parents watch, and if they go to church on Sunday, who they work for, and then, we can line them up against a wall and shoot them for conspiring to live as free Americans. And yes, Kansas has some schools who don't trust their kids word and have drug testing. With positive results a lot of the time. Some schools have had testing for some time now.

I think its a good idea to test them all. Even the athletes. Drugs are illegal, and if they are caught doing them, then they should be punished.

Actually, the Supreme Court ruled on this issue in their last session, I believe. They said a school district had the legal right to test any students involved in extra-curricular activities. However, I think if the district tests some, they have to test them all. This means that not only would wrestlers and basketball players be tested (if basketball players count as athletes), but members of the debate team and marching band as well. (You have to watch out for those band dorks.)
It pays to read the news.

Hovpen, I'm not sure which side of the fence your standing on. What Kansas schools test? I'm just curious. And I'm not sure I would in favor of it. And by the way, I appreciate your web site!

Man, with all the money problems the school board has now and is going to have in the future, this would be a great idea. Let's forget about keeping jobs for the faculty or having the money to keep our extra curricular activities alive and spend money on drug testing!

And by the way, I appreciate your web site! Lets just say that I am against testing kids in high schools for drugs. The purpose of high schools is to teach, not to punish or condem and they have gotten way away from that purpose, having to be parent, teacher, policeman, baby-sitter and all the other stuff we have piled on people who only want to teach. I see drug testing as a continuation of this country moving towards a police state and I am totally against that. What ever happened to the old method of a coach seeing a kid drinking and punishing him. I just think schools have too much to do now that have been tossed on them. I do remember when I was with the Courier, that Caldwell had testing. They lost several athletes due to smoking for a few games. And I believe this was challanged, but I'm not sure how the results came out. Foggy memory due to age and just fed up with the system and don't give a darn anymore.

What's your point, do you think someone is on steroids or what? What motivates the question?

If you are not 18, you don't have any rights to alter decisions made by the school districts. Your parents have to fight it. Plus, using drugs is the dumbest thing you can do. If you want to be a loser in life and use drugs, go ahead. Shoot up and drop out. Good luck.

I think the schoolboard should be tested. If they are going to test any one else. You might be surprised

Wow, I scored a takedown? I'll tell my coach, he'd probably be pretty pumped to find out I actually got one.
While I think they're totally bogus, I don't think steroids are a huge problem in wrestling. I know they an be in football, but steroids help you get bigger, and for a lot of guys the object is to get smaller. I know someone wants to get as much muscle mass and little fat as possible, but I really have never heard of anyone trying to beef up to wrestle. (Just my $.02)
And don't test kids, by the way.
