Any one know who got the outstanding wrestler award at Beloit? My vote would have gone to Grater for winning his fourth Beloit title.

I think it should have went to Taplin or to the guy that pinned Jacob Marrs from Sabetha. That was awesome.

Yes, Danny Grater won the Outstanding Wrestler at Beloit. I believe, he joins a list of only 9 other wrestlers in the history of the Beloit Invitational to win the tournament title 4 times.

The 215 from Sabetha was my choice.

Good for Danny- hard work and a love for the game goes far and Danny is a great showcase of the Kids Wrestling program. Alot of people think the Kids program burns you out but to me it also gets you to the next level. As most of the kids that are at a high level in High school- the kids program has got them there.

The coaches got to vote for 3 top wrestlers and it was averaged..most of the ballots were turned in before the 215 weight class and Allyn's match.Danny deserved it and wretled a great tourney but alot can be said for Allyne beating Marrs in the finals

Hey, How can one really say who is the OW untill all of the matches are done.

That happens at every tournament. Most coaches are total jerks and show no love to the fatties. Sometimes the heavyweights or 215 pounders are most outstanding, but the coaches have handed in their ballots by the end of 171 so they can get their team on the bus. It is the most grave injustice in the sport (besides when one coach lets his wrestler compete even though he has a herpes outbreak, but I digress).

No doubt the 215 match would have made a difference as well as the Hvy weight because i think the Marysville kid got some votes but a close match might have changed a few minds

Just two I think. Newton and Beloit. The Clay Center Invitational OW went to Mancuso. I don't think Valley Center or Rossville gave out one.

You are totally right on that. There should be two outstanding wrestlers in each tournament as the the big boys always get the shaft. I have seen it in many tournaments this year where coaches hand them in during the last three weight brackets.Take 103 to 140 and pick one then go 145 to 275 and then no one is cheated out of the chance!

That wouldn't work, because the 2nd OW would just go to a 171 pounder. I think that they should draw-in the order of the weights for the finals (CAN BE DONE) or have the finals matches go from 275 down to 103. What's wrong with making the Skinny Bennys wait to wrestle? The Fat Pats of the world like having an audience, too.

I can't say I have seen any 215 or 275 pound wrestler in the last 4 or 5 years that honestly deserved an OW award. The only exception in my mind might have been Jordan Bedore from Goodland.

Now back quite a few years guys like Matt Vogelsburg and Jeff Boyle, those guys truely deserved it. I won't give an OW award to a 215 or 275 pound wrestler until I see a true takedown such as a single leg or a double leg. and not until I see them do a sit out on bottom or something other than trap the guys elbow and roll over on top of them.

Everyone knows many upper weight matches are boring as they consist of two guys pushing each other around the whole period, I could go on but I think the point was made. Note to heavy wrestlers: If you want to win an OW award, do something to warrant it like have an exciting match not involving a bunch of stalling, or headlocks.

I agree, So many times the crowd is leaving before the last three weight classes. Reverse the order would be nice. Put more pressure on the light weights to win for the team!

You haven't seen a heavyweight deserving of OW for 4 or 5 years? What about Carrol, Hemmerling, Staab, Beltran, Ubben, Pulliam, Seiler, Greer, Lewis, Venegas, Dyer, Sprigg, etc etc etc. Many of these guys were all-americans. Do you think they earned that status by merely doing headlocks and the infamous Fat Man's Roll? All of these gentlemen were capable of far more than simply pushing each other back and forth, and deserve more respect from both you and the wrestling community. None of these guys were deserving of an Outstanding Wrester award? Not one? Josh Carrol, who finished 3rd in the country, was not an outstanding wrestler? You've got to be kidding. Just because Abilene hasn't had a good fatty in awhile doesn't mean other schools haven't had some pretty dang good ones. (Heck, even I beat Abilene's fatties.)

On the grander scale (grander = schools besides Abilene), fat guys get the short end of the stick. Sure, many of them push each other around and it looks like there's no action, but is a 3-2 Grater/Cornejo match any less of a wrestling match than a 3-2 Hemmerling/Carrol finals match? I think not. Do skinny and fat guys exert the same amount of effort? (If anything, I would say fatties use more, simply because it's harder to move both their own and their opponent's weight.) Last time I checked, each match lasts six minutes. Because their matches are lower scoring, does that make them worse at wrestling? It's a different style of wrestling, but it's still wrestling, and you can still be a pretty outstanding wrester if you weigh over 160 pounds.\

The fact that OW ballots are handed in before the finals is a travesty. I don't know how I feel about drawing the starting weight for the finals, but I think it should be a requirement that the OW ballots are handed in after the meet. If the coach of...I dont know, let's say...Abilene, realizes his team is 500 points behind and wants to get his team on the bus early, that's fine, but he should forfeit his vote. Makes sense to me.

i got an ow this year at minneapolis. i wrestle 189 but im actually a hwt. cause i had to cut 32 pounds to make it.

I think Sprigg has won outstanding wrestler this year. Hornek from Atwood won his fair share of OW at 215 last year.
