Awesome match with some incredible scrambles initiated by both Sharpe and Taplin. The styles of these two wrestlers made for an all or nothing type mentality.

First period was back and forth w/ attempts by each wrestler. Sharpe dropped on top with a takedown at the close of the 1st period w/ some discussion from the Abilene coaches and officials at to whether it was a takedown. Referees gave Sharpe the takedown - it was a judgement call as the takedown was signaled just as the towel boy tapped the lead referee.

Sharpe rode him most of the second period before giving up an escape late in the period.

Sharpe w/ an escape and takedown on a Taplin slip thrown in the third.

Taplin came hard and wrestled tough. Takedown at the end of the first gave Sharpe an advantage. A lot of near scores on takedown scrambles - and, had it been freestyle, Taplin would have scored big points on a couple of stacks - but no control was maintained for a takedown in folkstyle. Sharpe nearly caught Taplin on his back from the top position on as least one occasion.

Sharpe maintained composure, stuck to Taplin like glue and wore him down as the match went a long. Sharpe really wrestled smart and earned the regional championship in this one after this battle. Both are so talented, and Chase Frank of Scott City is right there too.

Great match between two outstanding wrestlers. Hope they can duplicate the effort and excitement next week, as this one was a very entertaining match.
