A Wrestlers Story
You can always tell a real wrestler when you see one, it’s not their cauliflower ear, or never seeing them eat. But its their attitude, they always have something else on their mind, usually wrestling. We take every loss like we’ve just lost our last match.
Theres very few real wrestlers, most kids try it because they think it looks cool and it’ll help them bully people. They’ll never make it. I do it because its pretty much the only thing I have, my parents always fight, I can’t trust my friends, my life’s a mess. I come home, go straight to my room and train. Pushups, sit-ups, curls, all that. I only come out when I’m done then I lay down and dream about winning. Not just any match but the big one, the state championships, finals. But in the end I always end up losing. I go on though thinking I’ll get ‘em next time.
I’ve come so close, 1-0, double OT. When that final whistle blew I knew I had lost, and it was the worst feeling I ever had. Everyone said “good job” and “you wrestled your best and that’s all you can do”. But I hated myself I knew I could’ve held on. I didn’t though. Now it’s over and I may never get that close again but you can be sure I’ll never quit.

I have some things for you that happend to meI have something along the lines...winning a dual for your team only to get an Unsportsmanlike conduct thrown against youfor raising your hands in triumph and your heavyweight gets pinned causing a tie and the team from the town of the ref gets a share of the league title with a tie (thanks PHIL!)...or having surgery to remove a tumor from your manhood and signing a release to wrestle only 4 days later only to get a nasty inside leg ride hit you hard to the crotch causing you severe pain and poppin of the stitches and a bloody soaked singlet.

Another one getting headlocked with short time left in a match to miss out on going on to state tournament..Finally getting back into the sport I love do to a gal I was in Love with wanted me to follow my dreams instead of follow her off to ESU where I could have been with her for college and marriage possibly looming on the horizon...instead I headed off to UCO and we kept in touch...I went 0-10 my 1st year...but was happy to be back in the sport after a 2 year Hiatus..then in 2001-2002 season I went 2-4 before tearing my ACL..I got a call from her after my surgery with her saying she loved me and that shed 'd see me during the Christmas break...she was right but I visited her instead I saw her for an impromptu funeral on Christmas eve...life throws lemons but some lemonaide turns out bitter compared to others.

Come now Aaron you only beat Jerrod. He only had two wins on the season! Besides all you two did was push each other around for two periods and got stalling called. And you knew lucas was going to throw that headlock. We all know I have plenty of sad stories about myself but no one wants to hear them and thats becuase it is the past. We are what we do in life. I use my bad experiences as a teaching tool for the kids that I coach so hopefully they don't make the same mistakes.

To boy: Wrestling is a great escape vehicle when things arenot going well in your life, but in the long run, I would encourage you to got involved with more things-- perhaps some more socailly oriented activity at school, or you church, or community. see your counseler at school about your future at college, it would appear that you are a very good wrestler as you have been very close to a state title apparently, but wrestling scholarships are very
difficult to come by, and life often offers a wide range of possibilities if you don't put all
your eggs in one basket. I am sorry that your home life is so fractured right now but it is up to you to see past that and develop a healthy respect for your potential. you seem to have
tools to become a well rounded young man, and
I wish sincerely that you may enjoy your successes and visualize that a limited succes is not a faiure.
To Swayze: I am truly sorry for your loss, and hope that you adapt and perservere.

This is a post to my dad. Mike Fairleigh. The guy who gave me that great escape vehicle. He introduced me to wresling at a very yong age, and i loved it. Even as a child a was angy. I was homeschooled till 8th grade and kinda felt out of place, and usually had some trouble with the kids in my wresling club. I didnt fit in and they were quick to point it out. I guess they didnt realize that they had to wresle me every practice, and all it became is a feul against them. When we wresled i was sure to make it as painfull as possible. i wasnt bad as a kid. placeing 2nd and 3rd at state and going 5 consecutive years. and my dad really helped me along the way. helped me channel that hate-energy into wresling. But somewere along the way i kinda lost that contact with him. And all that focus, all that consintrating hate into a form i could get it out.so it didnt get out. It stayed inside of me. And it threw me into a state of confusion. Wrestling sufferd as well as everything else. for the first time im my life i wasnt compeating for a state title any more. I was struggleing to make the team. and i didnt. i was jv most of the season. Including the district tournoment. so now that i couldnt get all the crap out i serched for another outlet. I wont go into much detail about this all i can say is it got pretty ugly. but as usuall my dad helped me thru it. and i descovered that there is more to life than wresling. all i am going to say is that i feel like a new person. and id like to thank my dad for that. What ever happens this season, my goal is to remember all the hours of coaching, driving, crying, celebrating, worrying, and the like that my dad did for me as a kid, and that no matter what i did he was always willing to help me. He never gave up on me. so now im not giving up on him. thanks for the help dad. now lets make the season of 04 a success!! im going to end this post by saying

Denis Fairleigh- STATE BOUND!!

use your head, sacrifice your body, wrestle with all your heart, you will win
