Our boys had a great day today. Just got a phone update and they lost this morning first off to PA. From there went on to beat Nebraska, Michigan, Indiana, and Illinois. THEY ARE IN THE FINALS CHAMPIONSHIP ROUNDS TOMORROW. WAY TO GO KANSAS!

Well, the championship round has been a rough one for the young men from Kansas. They lost to Michigan Gold, New York (pretty close), and look to be heading to a defeat against New Jersey. I beleive they will have their final dual against Missouri. Regardless, they have done a fanatastic job in representing Kansas, and making it to the Championship round is something that we should be proud of them for accomplishing. Some information of note: DeShazer has wrestled 75lbs for each match in Freestyle and is currently undefeated. Moeder wrestled the Missouri 75lber in Greco and posted an early fall, so Daniel should complete the Freestyle portion undefeated. Congratulations Dapper!! In addition, prior to the New Jersey match-up, I beleive that Tyson Schmitdberger was also undefeated at 70. Very proud of these young men, and wishing them a safe trip home.

Schoolboy, born in 91 and 92.
Finished up ugly the way it sounds. I beleive they took a serious spanking by Mizzou and came up with an 8th place finish. As I understand it Kyle Detmer was the MAN for the Kansas team. The information I received is that he was undefeated in both GR and FR, and that only a couple of wrestlers even scored on him. Sounded as though he was extremely dominant. They are now on the long trip home.

What weight will Kyle be at? Sounds like he might be a freshman to watch in 2006!

Well, another Schoolboy Duals has come and gone. And once again it was a succesful trip for the KS guys. 26 wrestlers made the trip to Indianopolis. The team was led by Coach Charles Knox who did an excellent job. He was assisted by two great guys; Aaron Miester and Danny Grater Jr. both of whom not only coached at the duals but also attended the Southern Plains camp and tournament the week before. If you ever have a chance to have Miester or Grater Jr. work with your young guy it will be time well spent.

In the Greco tournament we finished w/ a 4-3 dual record. We were drawn into a tough pool and unfortunately our 3-2 pool record put us in third in our pool and out of the Championship pool. All the kids stepped up and performed well. The highlight of the Greco tournament was our dual with Missouri that came down to the heavyweights. Wes Duer had to not only win but win with a pin in order for KS to move on and knock Mo out of the tournament. 10 seconds after the whistle blew Duer had the Mo kid on his back and secured the dual.

In Freestyle we faired better in pool play. We lost only to the eventually FS Champions PA #1. This sucess meant we were placed into a championship pool with the other top teams. We battled hard in the championship pool and actually gave everyone but Missouri a run for their money. Missouri tagged us pretty hard in the freestyle dual. We finished 8th.

Since this is a team dual I don't want to dwell alot on individual performance. However, Dapper Deshazer went undefeated in freestyle (even when having to wrestle up in his weight class on several occassion and deserves credit for that.

In addition, Kyle Detmer went undefeated in both styles and compiled a 16-0 combined record. To give you an idea how dominate Kyle was: the dual has an all tournament team for both greco and fs. Because of my fault Kyle's name didn't get turned in for a nomination for the greco all tournament team. Another kid was named at 125. Kyle had previously wrestled this kid in one of our duals and had teched him.

All the kids were great and we had no problems. If your wrestler was born in 1991 or 1992 and they didn't try out for the SB Dual team then they missed a great expierence.

Disney,

I wouldn't dwell to much on not getting Kyle's name in for the greco all tourament team...you would have thought the tournament directors or some honest coach from another team would have said something earlier.

Last year we gave the nominations for both styles at the end of the entire tournament. This year they asked for the greco names during the grecochampionships. Since we had been eliminated we weren't there to hear the announcement.

Well that should have been mentioned during the day or something so you all could have heard. Oh well.

Barry, I dont think Danial had to wrestle up a weight class in Freestyle, just a couple of times in Greco. Last I talked to Taylor he said he only got to wrestle 80 in Freestyle and Danial got all the matches at 75.

I went back and checked. Dapper wrestled 75 against Nebraska (winning 8 to 3) and Taylor wrestled at 75lbs (winning by a fall). Taylor wrestled 80 otherwise. (I believe Nebraska was a freestyle dual and not greco but after 4 days, 16 duals, 26 kids and 1.5 hours sleep last night I could be wrong).

Barry,

Do you have the Schoolboy roster and their total records for the duals?

Thanks!

I have the sheets for each duel. I would have to put it all together for individual won/loss records. One of the moms took all the info down and is writing something up to send out to the newspapers.

Good deal. Let the mom handle it. They probably have more energy right now from the sounds of it. 1.5 hours of sleep? Man I can't believe you are up!

wrestlingparents,
Garret was humbled a little, didn't wrestle to his potential, and feels like he let the team down. He only won 2 and lost 8.

Lots of excitement though...the two he won were against national champs, one he had lost to at southern plains.

That floater rib flaired again Friday, and got worse from there. Saturday he pinched a nerve in his back which caused muscle spasms in his back and neck, Strimples and Deshazer doctored him (thanks).

Then Sunday, he skipped a couple matches, tried again against MO. Unfortunately they needed him to go up to 145...was doing well (considering) at 8 to 8, got slammed and had no strength.

He was in soo much pain in the end that he was yelling to submit while getting pinned. The ref told him that if he'd quit yelling and kicking, he'd call the pin. You know Garret, patience gone, he started fighting for his life. The ref finally called it after I came on the mat.

We had a ref crew that liked us so much that they followed us for five or six duals and continued to bless us with their wisdom and fairplay.

Saw doctor today, pictures found no breaks or permanent damage, just bruising and swelling, neck a little off alignment from spasms...be fine in 4-5 days.

Sure missed you guys. How's Lucas?

Sounds like Garrett did good considering. Tell him congratulations from us.
Lucas is better. He has been given the ok to go back to regular activity, no sugery, thank God! All weekend Steve and I kept him updated as they came on the forum, he was a little down he wasn't there, but he was excited to hear how people were doing.
Congratulations to all!!
