Subs at Holton and Pittsburg and Districts at Ottawa!

And for those interested, Lee (Tuff) Hermreck is our new District director, Mark Stanley is the North and Joe Cisper is the new South sub-directors. Tom Peterman, our Freestyle director, will be assisted by Russ Hermreck who is our new Greco dude!

Good to see D1 back at Ottawa. Pittsburg is always a good time also. A fresh start is exactly what we needed in District 1. Thanks to Will Cokeley for telling it straight and to Randy for his voice of reason. It's going to be a great season for Kansas kids!

Was funding/balancing the checkbook for District 1 discussed? There were many rumors this summer of missing money.
If money is missing, what are the steps being taken to return that money to district?
Would taking money from kids wrestling be a criminal offense?

Of course it was discussed at length but I don't feel this is the proper venue for explanation.

Remember, these posts are read by a variety of people some whom are youngsters!

I understand this may not be the proper venue, but how can the
average District 1 member be kept up to date on what appears to
be a very troubling situation. It would be nice to be able to
hear some official explanations. That way we could put and end
to all the rumors by having the facts available.

You know, there's something that really bugs me about the Scooby Doo cartoon show : Half of the villans haven't actually done anything illegal (unless they live in a state where dressing in a monster suit and shouting "Raaaaggghhh !" is breaking the law), yet they still get arrested.

Has anyone else noticed this violation of civil liberties ?

Dont tell the Kids or Parents where the money went. It's not any of their business. They only paid the bill. Let it go and start over fresh with the new leaders. Sweep it under the rug boys. HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! WHO CARES!!!

I will say the newly elected leadership is investigating the situation at length. It definitely IS the business of District 1 and that includes coaches, parents, club leaders and wrestlers!

But I feel, that it serves no legitimate purpose speculating or furthering rumors on these boards!

When, the truth is discovered, it will be told to the club leaders of District 1. But as some will attest, this is far from a speedy process.

Facts:
District 1 funds have not been properly accounted for during the past three seasons.

At the present time records are incomplete or totally missing making a proper reconstruction very difficult.

It appears that the $2000 per season or a total of $6000, which was approved by vote by the members of district 1, to be sent to institutions of higher education never made to said institutions.

The 2004 District Tournament in Ottawa was reported as a losing event.$38 was paid to the hosting club. (The details have not been reconstructed at this time to verify the facts.)

The 2005 District Tournament in Baldwin was reported as breaking even. (The details have not been reconstructed at this time to verify the facts.)

The 2006 District Tournament in Olathe reported netting $6346 not including entry fees less officials, medals and other misc expenses. A final number has not been calculated to permit closing the books on this event.

The State Body and several district club leaders have attempted to get the detailed records but to date have been unsuccessful.

The new leadership is diligently working to reconstruct the past financial records.

At this time that is all there is to report.

Why is it asking too much to have you contact your club representative? You are only making yourself look foolish by attempting to gossip on here.

The point is, its our money. Every card holder has a right to know. Mr. Cokeley gave an excellent reply. He provided the information that the card holders had a right to know, without saying too much until the investigation is completed. But relying on club representative to handle everything and not be questioned is what caused this in the beginning.

Nobody is denying club members right to know, but rather if it should all be hashed out here on this board. Some of the people who were asking questions could be just fans and not a member of any club and only looking to stir the pot or gossip. In that case they have NO right to know. This is an excellent opportunity for club members to check the operation of their respective clubs and ask questions of their representatives. Were your club representatives at the meeting and if not why? I disagree with your statement that trusting your club representatives is what caused this problem.

J. Johnson didn't say it was just trusting your club representative that caused the problem. It was the lack of questioning. The critical issue is transparency through checks and balances. Accountability is a powerful guide. Personal relationships have a tendency to take our eyes off fiscal responsibility. It was a hard lesson to learn, but at least we are back on track in District 1. This eye opening experience should prevent us from traveling down that path again anytime soon!
